Climate change is very very real.

It is undeniable that we are affecting fish populations, our oceans are full of plastic, the Arctic is melting, rainforests are disappearing...

And people still don't think we are affecting the environment. They should join the flat earth society.

The question should be "is man made global warming real".

In any event, anything that politicians use as an excuse to increase taxation has to be viewed with a certain degree of suspicion.

I think its more to what extent does mankind contribute to and exasberate climate change. Climates change over time naturally. The issue really is that human pollution distorts that and dramatically as far as our environment is concerned. Its also not the only issue with human pollution and may not even be the worst for humanities future. Its just the biggesr

Agree. The climate is alway changing
But is it the end of the world

It is always changing, but the rapid rate of the current shift in temperature is unnatural and entirely unsustainable. I find it unimaginably stupid that a man elected to be the most powerful on earth could be so irresponsible and selfish. Not many people can truly make a difference. Trump can, and chose to put his own agenda first.

From what I could see Trump was right about the Paris accord.

America doesn't need big group hugs to do something about climate change. We shall see what his take is on it.

The Paris agreement was flawed in many ways. Not least it's voluntary nature. Many areas in the US at state and local level are doing things to reduce admissions. Being out of this touchy geeky pact won't make an iota of difference to.cutting emission

I think the UN AND Europe are more pissed about losing out on money from the US. Unfortunately too much of this
discussion is about redistributing wealth. Which is why the big banks
are so keen on these Paris/Kyoto type agreements.

That the question has to be asked is an indication of our piss poor education system.

The evidence is overwhelming. The only people denying the facts are those with a political agenda.

Yes the climate has been worse in the past... but not since mammals evolved.

Pulling out of the Paris agreement is just grandstanding. The US is already committed until just before Trumps office ends.

The Kyoto agreement was a failure

Why should Paris be any different

As for your assertion that people questioning the so called evidence have a political agenda that is simplistic.

A bit of research would tell there are many people questioning the evidence -- not denying it-- I have read hundreds of opinions
About this topic. I have been researching it since the early days of Al Gore's hysteria. I can assure you "the science is not settled"
As politicians and alarmists are often heard saying
Along with their erroneous statement that 97 percent of scientists agree. A little bit of research casts doubt on that oft repeated statistic.

It amazes me that people believe politicians when they pontificate
On this subject. But doubt their honesty in so many of their other pronouncements. I have yet to hear a politician who can explain the science and statistics. The just parrot the 97 percent number.

I'm not sure he's right, except in a broken clock kind of way, but effectively the 'summits on climate change' are really only looking like slowing down the speed at which we run towards the cliff edge....

I suspect his stance will be 'whats best for America financially' which isn't really the issue.

Well, I don't see any of the other big players doing anything other than what is best for them financially either.

There is a lot of hypocrisy in criticising Trump when you see what is committed to and who it affects. It's the usual anti Trump megaphone media drivel.

If I were the American president I wouldn't be signing that document either.....not how it is written.

Trump pulled out of the Paris accord for one reason only: headlines. He teased his decision for a week like a reality show, even though he'd stated flatly during the campaign that he'd cancel it once in office. While the rest of his administration is a s*** show, this was something he could do to gain a "win", even though polls suggest about 70% of Americans - including a majority in both major parties - support staying in the accords.

Of course, Trump had about 5 minutes of glory before the Russia scandal obliterated this story and then he stomped all over his own dick over the London Bridge attacks. Meanwhile, the agency tasked with fighting terrorism in the homeland - the FBI - rolls into its 3rd leaderless week since he fired the last Director without any clue as to a replacement.

Whatever happens with or without the Paris agreement, the US continues to move forward with cleaner and/or renewable energy - not because it's the right thing to do, but because it's the profitable thing to do. We have so much natural gas that we're building multi-billion dollar liquefaction plants to be able to export LNG around the world. Natural gas so cheap here that no one in their right mind - i.e. everyone excluding Trump supporters - would use oil or coal.

We have hundreds of years of supply based on current reserve estimates, so it's an acceptable bridge to a time when every new building will have solar and wind generators built in that will handle the base-load electricity supply. Even if we stick with centrally generated electricity, the amount of space needed to power the entire country by solar is tiny. [Link]

Trump says he wants to reinvigorate the coal industry, but this was merely a sop to gain votes in the coal belt, which is also the swing states of Pennsylvania and Ohio (both of which he won by a c*** hair). Those jobs didn't go away because of regulation - as he claimed - they went away because coal is dirty and expensive, and because of automation in mining. None of that will change. SO those people are still f***ed - perhaps more f***ed because his policies are brutal on those whose support he needed the most to win the election.

The US will move forward doing the right thing because it is also the cheapest thing and thus most profitable thing. It's just that we will be behind the rest of the world, which is the stupidity of Trump writ large.
