Thanks for that post. Would have said that what Parish says sounds all pretty fair and reasonable, and serves to remind us all that this is a sensible person running things in a sensible way.

Thanks for posting this. Reading between the lines sounds like we won't be risking a Pard's Mark 2 new manager. FFP might well be a factor in the lack of signings. Dyche seems likely, keep the backroom staff, try to get the Beast, a few decent loanees, off load the deadwood and get up to peak fitness earlier and we should have a good season.

Yes that one always comes up in relation to us, but never seems to bother, say Bournemouth, for example. I drew very little hope, if any at all, that we've any intention of signing Sakho. The only way the "signing one or two if Sam had stayed" scenario could make sense would be that he was amenable to signing just Sakho (and maybe one more) and we wouldn't get that sort of agreement from a new manager. So now he's gone the Sakho idea is ditched because we know we're going to have to offer a new manager some sort of budget to work with.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

"sakho? he stressed that it will be very tough. said it 3 times. may depend on the new manager. they asked what he'd do if the new manager says on day 1 to make it happen. answer was around overall budget, etc. "will be tough to get that done." did not sound optimistic." Make a great poker play our Steve.

If Sam was only looking at signing 1-2 players then their must be a lack of funds. Sakho going to be difficult?? its not difficult pay £30m and a good chance he will keep us in the Prem next season. This is why I think Sam 'retired' because with 1-2 players he knew he'd be in a struggle next season and at his age he can do without the stress. We know we will get injuries and 2 players will not improve the squad enough, especially if we do a Pardew and improve the starting 11 rather than the squad.

I think you're overestimating our finances. Based on our crowds I would agree, based on the £150m-£250m a season I don't agree. We should be able to afford £50m a season even taking FFP into account.

Why though? just with the TV deal the club get something like £165m thats without sponsorship, ticket sales etc etc. We must turnover £180m. With our 5th season in the Prem coming up you would think that we would have a decent budget or is that why Sam fooked off? I think had Sam been given a decent transfer budget to replace 6+ players, we all know who they are, then I think he'd be our manager now.

Thanks nairb75 for taking the trouble to take notes and put them on here; much appreciated, Like others, I'm a bit disappointed that the Sakho purchase appears to have been binned already and I'm nonplussed that we were only be thinking about getting one or two in if Sam had stayed. Why only a couple if Sam was here, but more now he's left? It's hard to make sense of that. I don't see how we can go on with any purchases until a new manager is in post either. I would be disappointed if we end up with Dyche. He's a decent manager, but I don't see him doing any more than keeping us above 18th and I doubt there'd be a queue of quality players inspired to join us either. That's the problem. There are managers who can manager the players we have. The type like Kelly, Campbell, Sako, Lee, etc. Then there are managers who can get in the better players we need but who might not be able to manage the other type of player. We need a manager who can straddle the line between the two.

Make a great poker play our Steve. Worked wonders with the Benteke transfer last year, didn't it? We got very little off what Liverpool wanted. Liverpool wanted £32m and we paid £28m rising to £32 with clauses.
