I think there's still a few that haven't yet worked out that the epithet was ironic.

It may sound ironic now, but when the "joniesta" nickname was first given it wasn't entirely bestowed ironically. That's not to say that we thought we had another Iniesta on our hands, but it was a term used affectionately for a player, who, when he made it into the 1st team, he did look a very promising and talented midfielder.

Sadly he has proved very fragile, but I still think he is a good Championship player.

What is this infatuation with Johnny Williams?

Sentiment I guess. He played a part in our promotion winning season and, prior to that, seeing the academy graduates like him, Scannell, Clyne and Wilf get runs in the first team fills you with a bit of pride.

Never forget him battling against Papa Boupa Diop in a 2-2 with West Ham back in 2011. At one point I think he ran between his legs.

Saw him a few months back down Hayes High Street. Parked up in a Merc, had a nice bird on his arm. I don't think life's too shabby.

He hasnt really been given a chance when fit at this level. I would give him a go and if no good then sell him on in the January window.

If only he could stay injury free. Talented player, and one of those you just don't want to sell because you just know how good he is going to be for another club.

It'd be a waste of a place in the 25. He's not as good as he was expected to be and has spent his career on the treatment table. Football's not his sport.

Great little player - runs with the ball stuck to his foot. Did well at the Euros. Always thought his only problem (apart from injury) was that he didn't score - still hasn't stopped Puncheon!

Behave. It wouldn't matter if Joniesta was 6ft and 13 stone, size isn't the problem.

Look at the games Wilf had back in the championship when, even playing out wide, he took control of game and tore teams apart. Williams has never done anything like that for us at any level.

He's energetic, but his passes rarely go forward or offer any kind of penetration and he spends most of his time running sideways. He doesn't seem particularly composed on the ball either. From what I've seen he just doesn't look like a Premier league player.

Even in the Euros, his main contribution seemed to run around with the ball hoping someone would foul him. He doesn't really seem to have the instinct for a killer pass, or an eye for goal.

Could he still be a decent player? Of course, probably not for us though and most likely in the Championship after a few more seasons down there.

Premier League number 10 for next year? No way.

In so much as both of them are attacking midfielders. I really don't get the Puncheon hate. First on the team sheet for all of our managers since we signed him on loan...

Must be doing something right?

Spends most of the game going round in circles, doesn't score goals since he moved to CM and gives away a lot of free-kicks around the box.

I don't see why people are so quick to say that Williams isn't good enough when he hasn't had a run of games in the premier league. For me he was pretty good for Wales in the Euros and was quality for us when we were in the championship. I hope he can have an injury free season so we can judge him properly. I personally think he could do well for us but he needs a chance to show if he is good enough or not

Would love to see him get a run out in some friendlies, he is palace through and through, whether he can hack it in the premier league is yet to be established, would like to think he could earn a place on the bench maybe.

Someone told me that he grew up supporting Chelsea and Zola was one of his heroes.

Sadly, Williams has done absolutely nothing in recent seasons to suggest he could be effective in the PL.
