They're clearly not going to suspend players who are touched but they don't think it was heavy enough. This is to stop the Snodgrass kind of dive, where they weren't touched and go down like they were hacked to pieces. I remember when Pulis was in charge and Thomas and Ince did this. He was furious with them. I welcome it! Our own Benteke was blatantly guilty of it against Delaney. I have still not forgiven him, seriously. I hate cheats and this rolling around on the floor pretending to be in pain. Hate it.

I'd say it's bad news; Zaha will get a red for being hacked down on the occasions where the ref failed to give him a yellow, for supposed simulation, when he's clobbered. I anticipate we won't see him for more than half a dozen games next season. I suspect that refs are less likely to card a player as they know that the review panel will look into it. This could save a couple of incorrect yellow cards but wont stop people hacking him down.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

He wasn't our own then. I also think that whilst we all know it was never a foul, it wasn't conclusive one way or the other and therefore the type of dive that wont result in a ban.

Big Sam has hit the nail on the head. I was not his biggest fan but his straight talking on this point is perfect. I agree with Sam's view. The decision has to be got right at the time, not 'corrected' 5 days later. If Snodgrass had been banned after his cheating against us, what difference would that have made to us as the cheated party? None. Would Jimmy Mac's yellow card for 'diving' (after a trip) mean an instant ban, or would he have the right to retrospective justice? I suspect it will be the former. The only way to get it right - or as 'right' as humanly possible - is to have instant video replays (but no doubt FIFA won't allow that).

The problem is if a player is fouled and he doesn't go down, especially in the penalty area, nine times out of ten the ref will not blow for a free kick. And if a player from one of the "big" clubs does cheat to gain a free kick/penalty ,TV pundits often describe it as clever play.

You have to say Sam Allardyce has this spot on. You have to take immediate action during the game itself. Retrospective punishments don't effect the results of matches, punishments will not be heavy enough and players will still be paid!

I know this is hypothetical but not without a real possibility it could happen. Just imagine we were at Hull and it's the last game of the season and we need to win to stay up We draw 3-3 and get relegated BUT an FA review clearly shows Snodgrass blatantly diving and bans him for it but the FA say they can't change the result after and we are still relegated with all that it entails. As Sam rightly says it's rubbish.
