For the first team, a new keeper, right-back, and attacking midfielder are needed.

The original request asked for "realistic" answers. Reality is:-

Mandanda is off
There are also a bunch of squad players who are unlikely to get a look in next year:-
Mutch, Chungy, Ledley, Remy, Campbell, Flamini, Sako, Fryers, Jonny Williams

Remy will go back to Chelsea and the rest should be let go for their career benefits and also to release salary money to pay for new additions.

That's 10 off from the squad.

We need:-

A starting goalkeeper - for me Begovic or Heaton.
A starting / cover at right back -
Centre backs - Sakho & Kone
Midfield/cover for Punch, Luka - Delph
Alternative striker - Defoe

5 players in.

That in my mind is £60m which leaves little/nothing for emergencies in January. We could of course find gems from Europe at much lower money. Fill the rest of the squad with youngsters as every game they gets helps the future.

This would take us to 8th which this season (if Utd win the Europa League) would take us into the Europe.

Of course this assumes that Wilf & Yohan stay. Both would be mugs to go in my view.

I think net spend this summer can't exceed 15m so some 'realistic' teams are actually fantasy. That's 15m in transfer plus accompanying wages. I could even envisage needing to have no net spend or negative net spend, though others are far more knowledgeable than me on this (lest anyone thinks I have ideas above my station).

Assuming 15m net...

Flog MacArthur*, Mutch and all dead wood for a miracle 20m, it's a mad market after all. *Not deadwood but needs must.

Begovic(5)

Ward Tomkins Sakho (30) PvA

Wilf Luka Townsend

Punch Cabaye

Benteke

Bring back Boateng

I personally think the budget will be about 60m to cover wages and transfer fees. Newcastle are promised 100+m. Even Burnley spent 35m last season.

You said realistic. I read a report that Everton are keen on sigurdsson. I think that unrealistic. Mandanda leaving. Schlupp better than PVA.

Schlupp was our worst player on Sunday. Struggled all afternoon. Not the first time either. Defensively I'm not convinced by either of them but at least PVA bombs forward and knows where the goal is.

And a striker surely? Remy going back to Chelsea (should not take up any options if there are any), Campbell at end of contract. Club not offering a new one. Wickham still injured (and no guarantees he'll be back for season start.
In fact I'd say that means two strikers required.

Did you watch the game fella. Schlupp was his best performance in a Palace shirt on Sunday. He drove forward won the penalty. The defence awareness is much better than PVA . I want my defender to defend. Not be caught up the field like PVA .

- one of the 3 left backs we have (most likely Soure but would be a bit harsh and would get nothing for him

I think we'd be lucky to see most of those leave for free. I don't see any of them leaving unless they're out of contract; surely no one is going to match Mutch's wages.

Souare I think will go out for loan for half a season to get fitness (if he even gets back to training).
