Cannabis is often seen as a gateway drug to other harder substances. We are already have two two legal drugs which cause a ton of social and health related problems let alone adding a third to the mix. I do however think it should be made better use of for medical reasons such as ms and cancer but that would be a different grade and type than stuff sold for recreational use. Cos if you want some pot you have to go to a drug dealer who sells all sorts of drugs, so that's actually more of a reason to legalise

The other argument is natural cannabis has been proven to have many medicinal properties. Remember as a teenager having knives pulled on me and all sorts, no sign of the old bill ever but always seemed to be around pretty much every night to search people for weed. Complete waste of everyone's time and I rarely touch the stuff anymore.

This is an odd one. I feel uneasy with the idea of legalising cannabis but when you look at the synthetic stuff out there maybe it should be legalised. You can always ban it again I suppose

I don't think this is really true, any more than alcohol is a gate way drug to 'harder drugs'. Its more complex than that. The problem of addiction most commonly lies in people, and we tend to forget that all manner of other drugs are used by people who end up addicted to smack. Every addict I've know started by abusing alcohol. In fact in the US, the current gate way drugs into heroin addiction are legally prescribed (and over prescribed) opiates like vicodin and oxycotin - With addicts moving onto heroin because its cheaper, or due to being cut off by doctors due to changes in prescription law.

The trick is to not want some pot in the first place. Problem then, is that your recreational drug of choice is alcohol, which is both addictive, dependency forming and has a serious correlation to violent crime and disorder. Where as of course cannabis is only dependency forming. Also in terms of mental health issues, alcohol is also disproportionally represented (cannabis may trigger early onset of psychosis - alcohol abuse can actually cause organic mental disorders along with a wide range of non-psychiatric medical complaints). There in lies the rub, its probably more beneficial for society to have cannabis as recreational drug than alcohol. I don't know about most people, but the people I know who tend to be big smokers of cannabis, don't drink much (or at all), preferring to get stoned to getting drunk.

I don't think all drugs should be legalized, but if you don't like the idea of pot being legal then you should have a think about alcohol...

I don't want to see heroin legalised, its more that I don't think that the current method of law enforcement helps society, addicts, police, NHS, the family of addicts or non-users. All of those people probably have problems that are made worse due to the illegal supply of Heroin (and its kind of true of all drugs).
