Jim Beglin said that there was talk that Tomkins might have been fit for this game,

That was on BEIN sports - the Qatar channel

How close is Tomkins?

I know we are still in trouble, but there is a massive overreaction going on IMO.
The top 6 always have the ability to dismantle any of the bottom 10/12 in this division. The fact it doesn't is testament to the competitive nature of this division. Today it happened to be our turn to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Obviously our chances would of been better with an entire first team available, but they weren't and we had to throw a defence together at short notice. How anyone could expect a cohesive performance from the defence available is beyond me. Add the fact that Macca can't play the role Cabaye plays then our only hope was for City not to click. Unfortunately they did and their first time passing was incredible.
Against that sort of performance grit, passion and hard running just ain't gonna be enough, no matter what anyone thinks. We hope again next week and hopefully we win . It's doable, but we gotta have faith.

Absolute madness. Hard to criticise Sam at the moment but this was a howler. Schlupp has never played CB in his career and we had a CB on the bench.

Not only a terrible tactical error but what a huge insult to Damo. Damo is past his best for sure but has been a great servant to the club and still has a good performance in him as we saw earlier in the season. If selected for Hull his confidence will be shattered.

If not Damo surely Milo would have been the obvious choice. 5 goals conceded says it all really.

I doubt we could of held City with a full first team out, they were very good. There is a massive gulf between the top 6 and the rest. Yes, we have some great results lately, but everyone was on their game for those.
This was not a game. I doubt anyone thought we could anything from, especially with our injuries.
Why are people being critical of the players, Schlupp has never played at CB, there was no midfield to protect the defence, City just glided past our midfield.
To suggest we should of put an U23 player in at CB, who nobody can name is just bizarre and naïve.
This game will not define our season.

I think we would have lost that game no matter whom we played. Had we had Sakho and Cabaye available we could have limited the damage and maybe got forward more but they played some stuff there's basically no defence against today.

Not worth risking injuries and knackered players for a slightly better performance but which would still have got us nulle points and might have cost us the point we need next week. Better to make sure of the performance next week when we really need it than to waste it on a lost cause.

That was what I thought.

I thought dropping Schlupp for PVA v Burnley was the first time I've witnessed favouritism from Sam. Schlupp didn't deserve to be dropped after Spurs

PVA as the more experienced defender of the two, I thought should have played centre back to day. I don't think Sam was saving Damo for Hull, more that he was disappointed with our defence v Burnley

Sam's master stroke. Lose the game. Mix the defence around so we look like a push over when Hull try to work out what we're up to, whilst knowing all along that we'd never use that defence in real life and when it really matters. Most importantly don't allow Damo to get injured,as we will need him next week against Hull.

That's a possibility but Sam has never rested anyone yet to save them for the next game - I wish he had !

I think not playing Delaney was a big mistake. Kelly has been playing well but next to the experience of Sako and Tompkins. To leave Kelly as the only centre half with a wingback to help him was suicide and it affected his game. Delaney may be slowing down but he has the experience to organise the defence and that organisation was sadly lacking for the first goal. The balance of the team was all wrong and once we let in their 2nd goal we needed to shut up shop and limit the damage but we couldn't. Kelly and Lucca had to come off to avoid a second yellow and Townsend didn't look 100% - all 3 are vital for the Hull game.
When City are on top form with Silva playing they are just too good and they are the last team to play with an inexperienced and unbalanced defence.
I just hope morale is not dented too much for next week.

Delaney and Dann were the first choice pairing during our horrific losing streak and neither seemed capable or organizing the defence at the time

That in addition to playing one recognised CB. Surely we couldn't have done any worse playing a youth teamer at CB? Easy to say in hindsight perhaps....

What youth cb would that have been? Don't know weather you've seen how bad our development team is

Schlupp has never played at centre-half and he is not the best defender anyway but I can understand Allardyce's thinking of wanting more agility in there against Man C.

We went into the game in central defence with what was once a 5th choice centre-half and a player who had never played in that position before.
