Well, Willo, Stephenson was a much coveted player for us and soon had the inevitable big move so it's difficult to asses him as a Palace player.

Although the West Ham side of the time was a successful one in terms of the players in the squad, it was by no means top of the pile - nowhere near and Stephenson didn't really cut it on the international stage.

He never exhibited the leadership qualities of Cannon of Sahko either.

I disagree. He played for Palace for 6 or 7 years and made more appearances for us than any other team he played for. Also weighed in with valauble goals.
He was relaible, made few mistakes and 'commanded' the defence by example rather than by cajoling.
Also played for England under 23's the next level down from our then World Cup winning team.

I still think I'd go with Craig Moore - very comfortable with the ball at his feet (and we haven't had many of those at centre half)

Although not the best ever, Gary O'Reilly needs a mention for the F.A Cup Semi-Final and Final goals in 1990.

Another player who I thought was brilliant for us (albeit only on loan again) was Steve Vickers. I was gutted when Bruce took him to Birmingham.

Yes he did well for us in the few games he played.
Lacked pace but was very good in the air.

Sign Sakho up but after only 9 games you cannot compare him to Jim Cannon.

Did he really play for us for that long? I do apologise for getting that so wrong. I had no idea.

I think I'm right, though about his international career. He did represent the U23's but never really went on from there, did he.

There's no doubt he had quality but I'm thinking not the highest.

It's true to point out that Sahko shouldn't really come into the 'Palace greats' bracket because of the brevity of his time here but I would say that what he has shown since his arrival has been astonishing and I'm still in mourning for the hand that fate dealt him on Wednesday night.
