West Ham. The club being investigated for breaking tax rules and a favourable deal well under market value for their government owned stadium which incidentally should've been investigated, is it under EU law or UEFA rules, because of unfair advantage, although that might mean the same for Real Madrid and they can't have that. Ashley and his immoral running of Sports Direct too.

Arrests and seizures related to the case have also been made in France. I'm guessing it relates to transfer dealings.

I do hope that smug b1tch Karen Brady is found to be to blame, and ends up licking out the top dog in Holloway in a few months time.

I've heard police have been at Chelsea too. If it's related to transfers with French club Mandana, Cabaye, and Souare were all signed from France.

Possibly the French based agency Mondial, they have mainly French players on their books, many have been picked up for cheap and sold on at a large profit, Cabaye is one of them. Interestingly Payet and Bilic are also on the agency's books.

It's only for £5 million which seems a relative pittance to me given the way it has been portrayed

The BBC's take on all this. Neither Pardew nor Big Sam had control of transfer dealings while at the Toon. I know the Murphy's Law applies to Palace but I think it is the crazy set up Ashley had in place until Rafa demanded control. I'd be more concerned if the Jordan Brothers were running things (especially Dominc) but Parish seems a much more straightforward businessman than Ashley, Gold or Abramovich. To be fair, Simon Jordan complained mightily about payments to agents, especially during the abortive transfer of Tim Cahill from Millwall.

The discussion I heard on Radio 4 suggested that the matter relates to "image rights", where a player sets up a separate company into which a large proportion of their salary (for use of their "image") is paid. Such companies are often based in tax havens, thus avoiding paying tax in the jurisdiction in which the money is earned. It's not in itself illegal, but can fall foul of the tax rules, that vary in different countries obviously. If so, it's what Messi was convicted of. Edited by bexleydave (27 Apr 2017 9.42am)
