I am hoping that Sam decides that he needs to prove his quality. We would have players queueing to wear the shirt following winning the two Cups and the Premier League. Cup runs do give a chance to give our youth a chance. COYP

I believe in the magic of the cup. When I’m on my deathbed, I’d like to look back at the day Palace lifted a major trophy. Remembering that good run in the premier league might not cut it. But what the people want is Premier League status. Is there anyone who would swap the current revival if it meant that Puncheon goal had won us the FA Cup last May? The five-odd moments of sheer and utter joy I got when Punch scored was almost enough. Over here in Atlanta, we had a brilliant group laughing, singing, crying and yelling at the Man. U. fans around us in the pub. We sang when we went ahead, and we sang harder when they equalised. We sang hardest when we lost, and especially when their fans abandoned the pub before even seeing their team awarded the trophy. Have been Palace through and through all my life - born there, seen all those games through thick and thin over so many years... but our Cup Final was one of my favourite days of my life. So no, would not swap. Because while winning would have been nice it was being a Palace fan in a pub 2000 miles away that meant everything to me.

I am turning down winning the cup for the long-term greater good of the club of Premier League status. Had we won the cup but been relegated, which was your "Sophie's Choice" premise, then we'd have a shiny bit of silverware for a cabinet while the club was dumped back into the monkey s***-fight that is the Championship. Think of all that could go wrong in that scenario: we lose a bunch of our best players - and probably the manager - as they trigger transfers to Premier League sides; we don't make it back before the parachute payments run out; we lose American investment as we're no longer on worldwide telly; we don't get the ground redeveloped and we're right back in an uncertain financial future. How is any of that worth the fleeting kudos of the cup win that will bring with it the trials of Europa League fixtures on top of the clogged, leg-sapping Championship schedule? You think Coventry is delving back too far? Ok, Wigan. FA Cup winners and relegatees - and now about to drop into League One unless they can beat playoff contenders Reading and Leeds while 'Appy 'Arry coincidentally fails to get Birmingham a single point. The club will not suffer long term effects for not having won the FA Cup. Relegation from the Premiership, at this point in our recovery from administration, is an existential crisis. I don’t think ‘which competition is more financially rewarding?’ is really the question. I like to think as fans, we might view the game with a bit more romance than that.

Well put it this way: Season on season in the prem and you're going to be in a decent position to have a good run at the cup every year, so I think our chances of reaching at least the quarters or Semi's in the next 4 years or so is pretty good, hopefully on current trajectory we can get some silverware in the next 6 years or so. But if you were to give me the option that we'd either win the FA Cup last year but get relegated or that we have a good spell in the PL now for 15-20 years but I'd die not having seen us win anything, then I'd pick the first option every time.

But cpking gave us a theoretical choice: win the cup and go down, or lose the cup and stay up. Of course I'd rather win and stay up but, with those choices only, I choose lose the cup and stay up every single time. And, in actuality, the cup run glossed over Pardew's utter failings as a coach and left us in the mess from which Big Sam has extricated us. So, in a way, the romance of the cup almost lead directly to our relegation from the Premier League and all the horrors that could have ensued thereafter.
We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football. |

League all day everyday. Give the cup a bash but not at any expense in the league. Winning cup games gives no confidence boost to league games and a cup run is likely to loose focus. Do it when we have a squad big enough to dabble in cup games, for now concentrate on the bread and butter.

I may be in a minority, but I would love us to win a trophy before I peg it. I quite enjoyed being a yo-yo club in the past, although I do appreciate there is no guarantee to bounce straight back.

One might do an Arsenal and get lower league and non-league opposition until the Sixth Round. OTOH you might be like us last season and get to the final having to beat other Premier League teams in every round. Although it would have saved us some effort having to play Citeh and lose, who would have been happy getting knocked out by notloB? Not I.
