But if Sam can bring a quality CB for less than Sakho and get top quality performances out of him like he has with Tomkins and Kelly then we'll be okay.

This is exactly the reason why I am not bothered whether we get Sakho or not. I'd love him to be at Palace next season and I thought the "two" ex-Liverpool boys with their teenager's handshake yesterday was fun (or at east a signal of the end for Sakho at Anfield), but if he wants Champions League, a bigger club, more money, etc, then Sam will know the cut off point and he will know how to establish a centre back pairing that will get stability. Sam has done this at Palace and I wager people will say that it is Sakho that has been the difference, but I think Sam has been. One player doesn't turn the slagheap we had into a fortress overnight.

the problem in today's market is that to get a centre back of the quality of Sakho, it will cost upwards of 20 Million

Anything less than the league title, one of the cups and 12-0 aggregate score over Brighton next season will be a disappointment now.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

I'd love to keep him...but we did just win away from home without him against the third-placed team in the Prem i.e. we didn't go back to being a shambles.

I think the key to keeping zaha, cabaye and benteke this summer is to sign Sakho!

I completely disagree. You could argue that it would cost upwards of fruity four million squid to find a midfield destroyer like Milivojovich, but it didn't. Sakho is worth that figure because a) Liverpool want that much, and b) some teams are willing to pay that much. There is no correlation to finding a Sakho replacement which means we have to pay 30 mil. I

This I agree with for two reasons as it shows intent, but also you can't buy camaraderie for any price and Sakho does bring the team together well it seems.

I can see Sakho and Zaha not being here next season, along with Cabaye who wants to return to France, which is a shame as he has played to his potential since Sam arrived.
This is pretty much the spine of the team which is a concern.

Agreed I see these 3 going but Sam is a guy that seems to know a player or knows someone who knows a player so I'm comfortable we will be ok. Zaha is almost impossible to replace so perhaps we will have to adapt to new players. If we can't get Sakho then I bet we get someone of similar quality. Could be good times next season but we do love to hit self destruct button.

The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years

Not saying this lot wouldn't beat them as times are different but purely as a team.

In terms of individual talent this is the best side we have had.
Sure, there is no Ian Wright but we have never had the likes of Wilfred Zaha. On his best day, Vince Hillaire as exciting as he was, could not do what Wilf does.

I could live without the first two on your list, Canters.

See if we let Sakho go and replace with a similarly technically qualified player - which in itself would mean top drawer - we could be making the same Pardewesque mistake of building the squad around technical skills only. The leadership, character and sheer hard steel that Sakho has added to the defense as a unit was apparent last night when he wasn't on the pitch and we saw the same with Jedinak. That's not to say that there aren't other men who can do that, but it's certainly the case that many of the so-called top defenders in the game can turn into pussycats at the slightest provocation, including having one of their buddies out of action. Arse defence without Koscielny was a f***ing shambles, for example.
