I personally prefer Damo to Tomkins. I would prefer a Delaney Tomkins pairing but I doubt Kelly will be dropped.

Yeah, play Delaney against a team who press very high and very quickly... that'll reduce our game plan to panic and hoof it.

I love the bloke to bits, but you need to be playing defenders who are comfortable with the ball against teams who play a high press, otherwise we'll have to hope Benteke has an excellent game.

Due to fitness problems it will be Kelly and Damo. It will not be a game of how we defend it will all be on can we score from the few chances we get. We will be lucky to keep them out even with Sakho. Dann,Tomkins ,Kelly and Damo in the defence. But we might just be able to score more than them!

I think we'll start with Kelly/Delaney and hope for the best.

I think we may go with 3/5 at the back for this one . As we will know doubt be camped in our own half for much of the game DD Tompkins and Kelly will do just fine in the middle protected by Miloivicicovic (Ill get right one day)

That'd guarantee us a thrashing so I bloody hope not, and anyway Tompkins is a major doubt.

I don't think so , the security of the extra man at the back gives the midfield more licence to support Benteke who is often isolated . Our full backs are better going forward than defending so it makes sense (to me anyway) to also give them a little more freedom to get up and join attacks .

As Sakho can't play against Liverpool, is our only choice of replacement Delaney or is Tomkins fit yet?

Play Luka there as he has played as CB on occasions for his previous clubs with Jimmy Mac coming into midfield to replace him.

That's an option I had toyed with but dismissed . No Palace player showed they were capable of protecting the Centre backs until Luka arrived , in fact they showed they were pretty useless at it .

It went well in the second half at Southampton didn't it?

No it didn't but that was more down to our weakness off the bench that night than the system . No system /formation works 100% and other sides counter what you set up or change . If it (like anything else ) starts to go tits then change it but I think it would be worth a go against Liverpool .

We've recently managed to get wins away at Chelsea and at home against Arsenal without resorting to a system that has hardly been used since Allardyce has been here and was an unmitigated disaster for Pardew. I'd prefer that we stick with what we know works; away to Liverpool is not the time to start experimenting with either systems or personnel.

What we know works is Sakho at centre back with another
Its going to be an experiment whatever Sam decides
