It may that someone just switched off and lost concentration and made a mistake for that one moment,it happens in football, players will make mistakes.
Not having a go just wondering if you have some inside info.

I think so. We defended it OK after that.

Learned his lesson ? Joke.
What he was doing was trying to see the wood for the trees , diagnosing the mess he was left , and learning about the players so we could achieve what we are doing now.
He actually said it may take a couple of months to sort out and he looks to be bang on schedule wit has that.

Sometimes you have to go a step backwards cliche.

What it does demonstrate is Sam's confidence that he's going to deliver. Those games slumped on the bench were no different to hundreds of his previous games.

A manager with confidence to change it up rather than same thing until it and he gets found out and the inevitable sack waiting to happen.

Took him a while to figure things out though. First game in charge Ward was still a left back, Kelly a right back, Cabaye subbed after 60 minutes, Townsend after 70.

Second match, same fullbacks, Townsend subbed after 50 minutes.

Third match Ward still at left back, now Tomkins at right back.

Fourth match, switched to 3-5-2, Schlupp did ok, but Ward couldn't go up and down the flank. Townsend wasn't even used.

Those were 4 losses in a row.

5th match, first match of van Aanholt as left back, finally a win against Bournemouth. Still with the 3-5-2. Townsend barely sent in for 15 minutes, but still provides the assist for Benteke's 2-0 goal.

6th match a 4-0 loss to Sunderland with the same 3-5-2 and McArthur playing left midfielder even though Puncheon was in the first 11 in McArthur's position!

With the morale down after so many losses, the team lost to Stoke away too even though the first 11 looked ok.

And since then you can see that Sam Allardyce has learned his lesson and has done everything right and it went uphill.

we would have won the first game if a certain player had not done that daft penalty take ,plus he took over a team of unfit players ,learned his lesson are you joking it was before he brought in 4 new players

They improved the squad. I just can't stop seeing Sakho as a Trojan horse. Had the team gotten another let's say 5 million pounds center back and the result had been similar I'd have been fine.
But getting Sakho on loan when you knew that it would take at least 20 million to sign him permanently (now 30 million) and having all this fan pressure to do so after his good performances is an example of massively overpaying for me.

I think it would have been a slightly bigger loss if the team had gone down into the Championship (kidding, of course, but the huge amount that will be paid on Sakho will hang like an anchor around Palace's throat for years to come )

True. Cheers for pointing this out. But still, Fryers would have been a better left back than Ward in those first matches. Proof- there were only losses with Ward and Kelly as fullbacks, even before Allardyce came. The provided no service for Benteke and their defending was average.
I really can't say that points would have come with Fryers, but it just couldn't have been worse

He's a Trojan alright, not sure about the horse bit.

The team was so disorganised and unfit when he arrived that the early poor form was inevitable while he sorted things out. The only major slip-up recently was the crazy second half tactics against Southampton.

yes it seemed crazy to me as well, but i think that bacary sako had been showing a lot in training and sam wanted to see just how good he was ,i do not think he will willing do that again but our squad is really very thin so he might need to

However good he may have looked I can't see why he was used to replace Cabaye FFS.

cabaye came off because he had an injury and sam wanted to make sure he would be ok for the next game which proved to be the right thing to do palace 3-arsenal 0
