True. The thread title is all wrong as most of us knew that he was better than his performances for us were indicating. When we signed him everyone said what a marvellous piece of business it was to sell Bolasie for £28m and replace him with Townsend for £13m and after a poor start he is now repaying our faith

I too was a person who wanted Townsend out asap. However, I'm warming to him. I just don't want him to just put effort in when he gets his own way. I want him to do it for the team regardless. Keep it up Andros!!

I was a big critic of Townsend. He wasn't trying before and he is now. If the facts change I am prepared to change my mind. Very pleased that he's more like the player I'd hoped we'd bought last summer.

He needed Sammy Lee to say quite a few obvious things to get him going.

There was one game, before Christmas where I criticised him quite harshly but in my opinion, deservedly. I like most, thought he was / is better than Yannick if less exciting. Like most and as Andros also said, he didn't do enough in the first half of the season. Something recent performances have proved.

I think some large pieces of humble pie could be on the menu for quite a few of us. Delighted for him - an England call up could soon be back on the cards

I am not sure it is a case of proving the critics wrong, unless you were one who had completely dismissed him as a poor player. He deserved some criticism for he definitely wasn't delivering the goods earlier in the season. We had paid good money for him and we were entitled to expect something better than he was providing. Behind the bluster some players can be psychologically fragile. A good man-manager is one who can understand how to get the best from his players and to know that one approach doesn't necessarily fit all. In Andros's case it seems it was Sammy Lee was able to get into AT's head and help alter his mindset. And what a change!

Ran about 30 yards for each one. Now looks like an excellent attacking player and useful defending and running the ball from the back as well. Exposes defences that try to double up on Wilf by giving us another option and the chance to spray the ball about coming from the midfield. Assist today for Benteke was also top quality. Agree with this. I think both of the tackles you mention were from them breaking from our corners and if he hadn't of made them then Leicester would have had a break on. Surprised we weren't better prepared for this after their first goal and if Andros had a lesser work rate we would have been in trouble. A Newcastle mate of mine was saying they all loved him because he was a 100 perecent-er as well as having the ability to do something a bit different. The more I see of him the more I agree.

Our corners are still pretty poor though. We shouldn't be seeing the other lot score or have to run our arses off and make a death tackle twenty seconds after we fail to beat the first man from a corner.

Barcelona only take short corners for this exact reason. Maybe its something we should try, the corners we have been taking have been dreadful
