Agreed. Parish has taken us to the level that all of us Palace fans have been dreaming of all our life. An established top flight team. No other chairman, manager or man has done that. And you still get numpties on here giving him grief. Beggars belief.

On the whole, I totally agree with your support of Mr Parish. He and CPFC2010 have done wonders. However Noades and Coppell did the same thing in 1989-93. Let us hope the wheels don't come off like they did after four great seasons then.

Our Arthur oversaw the club being near bottom of Division 3 (south) and into the top league for the first time within a decade and rebuilt half the ground too in that time. Steve has a way to go before he deserves a Stand to be named after him but your point is very fair.

All things are temporary and no boss should be beyond scrutiny and imo the slowness and lack of proper investment off the field toward establishing a flourishing youth academy especially has been disappointing as has been selling off over half the club to Yank investors and for what?

If we had been relegated this season we would have had very little to show for all the dosh off the pitch.

Apart from that Parish has been mostly ace.

btw we are not an established top-flight team yet. We still fight relegation every season.

But it looks like we won't be relegated and have built a squad that includes players such as Yohan Cabaye, Christian Benteke, Andros Townsend & Mamadou Sakho. Every single season Steve Parish has showed a clear intent to progress, he has got things wrong (Pardew etc.) but I really don't know how people can pick holes in the job he's done considering where we came from.

Even the man himself 'picks holes in the job he's done' so it's no big deal if there is ongoing scrutiny. He can obviously take it so fans don't need to get so overly-protective. He's not omnipotent. Praise where praise is due - and he gets loads of that - and constructive criticism too when appropriate strikes a nice balance.

He has a chance to build a legacy at Palace and I really hope he achieves it and goes beyond just going for Prem survival every year and reconstructs the club positively from top to bottom, on and off the pitch, as Arthur Wait did.

Matthew Harding has a stand named after him at Chelsea. There is a good reason for that. He built the damned thing with his own dosh.

Nice bit of history, thanks for posting. I quite like the way AW and SP don't really seem to like giving interviews - always makes me think they'd rather be running the club

I don't think Pardew can be called a mistake. Maybe not firing him quick enough that's fair enough, but he kept us in when we were in real trouble and gave us our most comfortable season free of relegation worries and a cup final.

I don't understand why some are comparing the various chairmen associated with building the club up from a club that started real life when it moved to Selhurst Park in 1927 and then stagnated.
Every decade since 1960 Palace have progressed to a position where most kids regard Palace as a club between the EPL and Championship. Before that it was a bottom club, seeking re-election on a couple of occasions.
Now Palace progress on an almost yearly basis and the only time Palace has gone backwards in my life is the Bloye years, a chairman more interested in his retail empire selling o e end of the ground to Sainsbury and seeing Palace drop into the third tier,
Since then we've had promotions, capped players, cup finals and who would bet against it getting even mire successful once the stadiums sorted.

Blimey, just realised that I first saw Palace 50 years ago today, a nil nil thriller, v Dundee friendly under the lights! Instantly caught the bug, start of the roller coast ride which continues on today! COYP!
