we just have to keep going, and our results, and others around us, will take care of themselves

We need to finish as high as possible for several reasons
1. PL prize money
2. Keeping our best players (and Manager)
3. Attracting new talent
4. Raising the club's profile and increasing revenue streams

I disengage, I turn the page.

The way the team is playing 8/9th is a reasonable target.

From the remaining fixtures the only ones I am less than confident about would be Spurs at home and City away but with Sakho at the back you always have a chance.

No that's not a reasonable target....

A reasonable target is something which is likely achievable. If we achieved 8/9th it would be tremendous! But that doesn't make it a reasonable target.

A few wins and our expectations go through the roof.

Next thing you know we'll finish 12th and people will call for Sams head to roll..

Fans are crazy!

If we finish with a couple teams between us and the drop zone the team would have done fantastic compared to where we were a month ago.

Anything above that is sublime!

For the record I'd love us to finish 8th but to have it as a reasonable target is absurd...

Yes we could. We could also be relegated and as someone who was at both those last two games in 92-93 I will never believe we're safe until we are!

Does it hurt to aim for the stars and end up landing on the moon?

Is it actually mathematically possible? if teams above us are playing each other they can't both lose.

I agree with the comments that suggest even a couple of places above the drop zone would be amazing compared to where we were not so long ago. Would love to see us finish as high as possible but I'd not turn my nose up if we finished exactly where we are now.

Well if the distance from the earth to the nearest star (the Sun) was divided into 20 to represent the positions in the Premier League, the moon would fall in the relegation positions.

Have I failed to understand an analogy?

Best performance for ages, everyone played their part.
After the Sunderland game, thought we were doomed but after yesterday I have high hopes.
It was nice to see the team attack and not sit back on their lead. They played with spirit and even a point would have been great, but three is a bonus and must put us firmly in a stay up position which is the all important thing.
Great if we can keep Zaha and Townsend, they should also be the England wingers, are there better candidates?!! Sako must be top of the shopping list.
Well done lads, you've done us loyal supporters proud.

I'm happy with finishing anywhere above the bottom three. I'm confident now that we'll finish around 13-15th

We are either going top 10 or certs for relegation - depending on the latest result.
Given the season we have had I will be more than happy to finish 15th, 16th or even 17th !

I reckon we will finish 11th if that was possible than it won't of been a bad season
