We need a song for him. I can't remember hearing any.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

What has impressed me most recently is his work rate, and not just when he went on that crazy sprint after the ball right across the halfway line last night! He was great against the Arse, and has been good lately, but without being too negative...how many times has he been poor? We shouldn't go too mad after a flash of good form, whatever good changing the manager may or may not have done for him, he still has a long way to go when compared to Wilf for consistent menace to the oppo, and needs to stay at a higher performance level for a prolonged spell, for his sake and ours. The same is true of Cabeye, and even though he was great last night and has played fairly well in our recent good run, I'd still accept a fair price for him from Marseilles (or whoever) in the summer. He has had long enough and hasn't done it. We can't waste the wages money or ignore the potential transfer fee, all of which can be reinvested. Townsend is not at the same stage as Cabeye. Andros can hopefully build on his recent form, and prove himself to be more than another hit and miss one-time prospect who got England call ups simply because he was an academy product from a big club. Last night was his 250th club game. He's never got more than 6 goals in a season, and has always struggled to show consistent form over an extended period. Hopefully we are what he's been looking for, but he is one of a number of expensive signings who have failed to shine over the course of the season, and we should keep recent form in perspective. Personally, whereas I'd've happily taken the money from Newcastle in January, I've seen enough recently to want to persevere with him now. I'd love to see him play in the no10 position. I'm not convinced he has the burst of pace to beat a full back in the Bolasie style, or the skills and tricks to beat them ala Wilf. We know he can shoot from range, and I'd be interested to see how he got on playing off of Benteke. He seems to be more dangerous when cutting inside anyway, and he could always roam wide from the centre to overload a full back on either side. When Pardew moved Bolasie or Wilf into the centre it didn't suit either, but they are flying machines whereas Townsend is a bit more of an all rounder. He Could be like Puncheon but with goals. I think that's the thing for Townsend, he either goes for the stars now in a big way, or he declines into a player likely to spend his best days at the wrong end of the prem table, or the better end of the championship. If last night is an indication then we can look forward to him next year, but lets wait and see.

I think Townsend has been excellent for a while now. It is no coincidence that the upturn in form both individually and collectively has coincided with a noticeable improvement in fitness levels. That can only be down to the new management / coaching staff.

Just think there was that game on Deadline Day where he was on the bench and Sam admitted it's madness that he's on the bench and potentially out the door. Thank God that for whatever reason Newcastle didn't force that one through. He was ready to go, Sam was prepared to let him and then it all just didn't happen. I think we'd probably be in bottom 3 without him, who would we play there? Puncheon?

So pleased that three of the most disappointing players in the first half of the season, Yohan, Andros and Wayne H have improved dramatically. Whether its Sam's influence, their own professional pride, or a mixture of the two, I don't care. Onwards and upwards. Shame we'll miss Sakho for the Liverpool match.

That came from HIS pass to Zaha which tbf was a little misplaced. Zaha shrugged at it and AT chased it across the pitch till he lost out infront of the dugout. first thing he then did was look across to Zaha as if to say "thats what you are meant to do" For once, top quality from him. Showed alot of heart.

Townsend and Zaha just needed to play on the correct wings, each on the part of their good foot. Not rocket science by Allardyce

It's just nice to see a primarily left footed player finally be OK with occasionally playing on the left hand side

Andros publicly declared whilst pardew was in charge that he really can only do the business on the right and cut in. He wasn't very good on the left. Wilf played on left therefore and never moaned even though he too is a right winger. They've been changing around ever so often in game too ever since. Which is guess is the only sensible outcome til we ever buy a top left sided left footed left testicalled winger Edited by matthau (11 Apr 2017 6.50pm)

He's had some flak in the past, perhaps rightly for a lack of effort in early games but he was fantastic last night. Really put in a shift. Seems to be relishing working under Allardyce.

Superb performance from Andros. He is a born again footballer under Sam. Loved the way he chased down every ball. Nice goal too from a top class team move.
