We should re name this thread to "conspiracy nut jobs"

Assad has Chemical weapons, he is a total and utter narcissistic megalomaniac, and from his track record, wouldn't think twice of using whatever weapons he had at his disposal, specifically because he knows he has Russian backing.

I think more likely this was an event orchestrated by the Kremlin, to antagonise the USA into a response, which they got, the Russian paid for and built by Air Base was pummelled into next week rendering it useless as an airfield (59 Cruise missiles will do that). In turn (of course) Russia has now rescinded it's agreement to not engage in hostilities with American military personnel.

IMO It's a tester to see if USA will Step in to stop Putin (original nutter) invading the Balkan States, not forgetting that we now have 800 or so troops in Estonia already.

But what worries me is that it is trump and Putin moving the chess pieces around, two ego's that know no limits.

Still at least it will keep me in a job for a while. So every (hopefully not mushroom) cloud and all that.

Do I need to sound the irony klaxon?

I'm merely highlighting the facts, followed by my doubts that a proper fact-finding exercise has been conducted.

Not really, nothing I have said is beyond the realms of credibility, the Kremlin are heavily invested in Syria. It is a known fact they (Putin) want to reclaim the Balkan states, which makes America and NATO very very nervous, hence 800 Troops in Estonia.

So no I don't think my post is as bad as "it was ISIS" I put a valid credible theory together, which you have done nothing to counter argue against.

Tiresome.

I agree that it is difficult to see why Assad would order such an attack in the current situation. However, everyone apart from Assad are saying that it was the government. It is probable that the USA has informants within the Syrian apparatus who would confirm it on way or another. I know Trump does not come across as the most thoughtful of leaders, but he would need more to go on than assumption before launching the response attack.

Is it ? Is it really.

Have a read, and that was before things got really bad.

Would you like to indicate what I have said that is "beyond the realms of credibility"?

I wasn't looking to "counter" your theory, merely highlight that the timing and motive is suspect, and that (ongoing) investigations should reach conclusions before action is taken.

Tiresome indeed.

The World Health Organization said victims bore the signs of exposure to nerve agents, and Amnesty International said evidence pointed to an "air-launched chemical attack." International agencies are investigating the origin of the agents used in the strike.

So Unless ISIS now have bombers, Im going with Assad is a total and utter c***.

Far too quick to apportion blame here without a proper investigation. I remain sceptical; after all, ISIS (whom this action now strengthens) would never consider committing atrocities if it meant furthering their cause, right? Just consider the pretext to this:

ISIS are getting hammered in Iraq, and have all but lost Mosul

Assad is winning the war in Syria

He (supposedly) relinquished his chemical weapons back in 2013

The US last week stated they would no longer seek to oust him from power

This week he nerve-gasses (almost exclusively, as far I can tell) women and children. With full knowledge this event would spread like wildfire and draw international condemnation.

The US now says he has to go.

Sorry, but I find this more than a little fishy.

Could ISIS/"rebels" have deployed chemical weapons without airpower? I don't know. A proper investigation should have been taken, rather than the US wading in. Was a proper investigation conducted? No idea, but the timescale suggests otherwise.

One thing's for sure, Syrians lose. ISIS wins.

I have absolutely no horse in this race, other than to state that that international community could contain and engage with Assad better than they could ISIS. Better the devil you know.

All very compelling. Counter-arguments like "well Assad is a crazy nut job" are just narrative-fed bollox, to be frank.

Worth noting too how important innocent lives become when they are not in either Mosul or Yemen.

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)
