Confidence is high, Benteke and Zaha are on fire, the whole team is confident, and fortune is on our side as the Chelsea match clearly showed. Sam, unlike Pardew, will not allow them to slip into a false sense of confidence. With the new management and spirit I feel that even with Dann and Tomkins (NOT TOMPKINS!) out that Delaney and Kelly will be competent in defence as well, just as Henessey has been. All the last 4 matches were extremely tough, the new guys don't know any better, Sam to keep the momentum going and we'll have our 38+ points sooner or later.

Oddly, despite many thinking 36-38 points would be enough this season, the table has thrown up a far wider picture. Mathematically, anybody up to 9th (Stoke) could get dragged into - all it takes is a good or bad run like we or West Ham are on at the minute. On current form, Swansea, Burnley & West Ham are destined to be the teams fighting to avoid the third relegation spot but that could change after a single win let alone a good run. Citeh were looking good with 4 wins on the spin but they've only managed draws in their last 3 which has kept them below the bin-dippers when they could've hit 2nd.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

I've just had a couple of quid on Bournemouth to go down, at 66/1 with BetVictor. Looks a massive price to me considering they don't have the game in hand, and their next three games are Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs. It's a strange season. The fact that it's possible (though unlikely) for us to go 10th from 16th by beating Southampton, at this stage of the season is pretty ludicrous. Teams could pull away and leave the bottom four adrift, or we could end up with a final day where there are three or four teams who could finish 18th. That's assuming there is no late rally from Sunderland or Boro either...

The points tally is not the only issue at this time of the season. We are four points off relegation, but we only need to have a bad run and for Swansea and Hull to pick up points and we would be in the mire again. Whereas Southampton would need to do worse than eight other clubs to find themselves in the relegation zone. With clubs tending to play each other, it becomes less likely. Personally, I think that Burnley are the only other candidates for relegation. Everyone above Burnley are safe. Certainly Stoke aren't going to get relegated, they would need to lose their last eight and Hull would need to get a result in 4 games, Swansea in 3 games and Palace and Burnley in 2. There is too much to happen.

Keep your eye on West Ham, they have some very difficult games in the run in. They are in bad form and shipping goals. This.
