Been on the cards since the Brexit vote. The remain support in Scotland pretty much established a high degree of contradiction that the SNP could play to for a second referendum. Problem is I think they've jumped to it too soon, they lose a second referendum, and they could end up a victim of the whole 'single issue party' problem. Nationalist parties without an independence basis, tend to struggle to expand their support, and to retain less ideological supporters.

No it is good timing the referendum will not take place until autumn next year so it will be inside the 2 year negotiation.

No chance No.10 will let them do it whilst Brexit negotiations are going on, it doesn't even make sense for them to do it. Surely would be a much more reasonable question for the Scottish people to ask them whether they'd rather Brexit Britain (with whatever deal the govt come up with) vs Indy Scotland.

Yes, but if they lose the referendum, where do they go from there as a political movement in Scotland. Well, they still hold most of the parliamentary seats in Scotland. If a referendum defeat finishes them as a viable political movement, who's going to fill the vacuum in all those constituencies?

I'd imagine the Scottish Labour Party would be the most likely candidate to capitalise on the idea of a Scotland that wants to remain in the EU, but not become independent. That said, it seems that in Scotland these days the SNP are the only party in town.

Will it be a hard or soft Sexit?
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

The government should go to the people for a mandate with a new Prime Minister.

The government should go to the people for a mandate with a new Prime Minister. Not necessary. They have a majority in parliament. Whoever the leader of that party is, it's irrelevant. In the UK, people don't elect a Prime Minister, they vote for MPs. This is Janet & John stuff but it clearly needs to be explained to you.

No I think William Hague is right here. The govt. besieged by self inflicted problems having a tinpot dictator is just one.

The Scottish one I'd happily shove her head down the bog and flush and flush and flush. What bit of NO doesn't she understand? Oh, and whikst she's fannying about trying to become the international stateswoman she'll never be she really ought to have asked someone to run the country, where before long everywhere will be like Cumbernauld.
