Although the original cinema release was among my best big screen experiences, there is no doubt that it was a travesty to edit out so much footage. It must have been a decision based entirely on the running time and how that would effect cinema audiences. One of the worst decisions ever made in my view. We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football. |

Certainly they're aren't many Sci-Fi films I can think of in a similar vein / genre that are better. The only Sci-Fi film that I can think of, that's comparable (kind of Sci-Fi Horror or Sci-Fi war film) would be Alien. Suspense, drama, horror, heroism, redemption and sacrifice its all in there. Some of those Colonial Marines are barely on screen and still you care about them (and remember their names). Arguably the only thing I'd say comes close is Dog Soldiers (albeit smaller scale).

Naturally. I actually prefer Aliens but Alien is also a stand alone masterpiece of film making. Cameron and Scott doing their best work.
