The problem is though, that now his confidence is down and he's feeling he's being victimised. Maybe time for the manager to take the Fergie approach and put it in the public domain that his player is not being protected. Trouble is when you're at the bottom it looks like excuse making. Fergie could do it from a position of strength.

Yes, but he wouldn't be making that statement for the benefit of the public, would he? He'd be preaching to the choir for those who can see what's going on, and making excuses in the view of those who can't. Mind you, whereas Pardew constantly made excuses to the point where everyone just laughed Allardyce tells it as it is
and speaks with honesty and gravitas.

It would probably help Wilf no matter what everyone else thinks.

Ward gives him so little support on that right side and is so laboured and predictable with his passing to Wilf. That's been the problem last 2 games especially. I think Kelly should come back in; not as bad as everyone thinks, IMO better going forward than Ward, Joel's confidence looks completely shot.

I don't see anything wrong with Wilf's confidence.

He's our main threat with the ball at his feet. Stop him and you've gone a long way to stopping Palace. So he faces double marking as a minimum, every game.

We haven't got sufficient quality in the squad to give him a rest.

I actually think he's carried a lot of responsibility over the last year with precious little help.

Another one of these he can't do anything wrong brigade.I love an on song wilf but in the last couple of games he's not been at his best by a long way.Your comments a tad incorrect as prior to the ACNM he was outstanding even with2/3 markers. The fact that he falls over every time is surely a reason efs reject many of his claims for a foul think you may have something though as maybe SA should have put 3 on Defoe

My bad, didn't realise one of Zara's remits was to defy gravity. Stoke were constantly holding his shirt, dragging him back etc.

I can't believe out of everyone in an underperforming team your picking out Zaha. Really does make me wonder how people view the game.

The amount of cynical challanges on him is ridiculous, the majority not getting punished, Sunderland and Larsson is prime example. The one area of Zaha's game that I am critical of is his dissent, yet I can understand how frustrating it must be constantly getting hacked.

It is clear to see we have no threat through the middle, when it doesn't work on the wings we have no other outlet which puts a lot of pressure on our wingers.

Correct, both Sunderland and Stoke forced us to play through the middle and side to side, our defense and midfield don't help with their slow passing out to the wings, only to get forced back inside.

Do you seriously believe every time he goes down he's fouled

Wilf needs to stop feeling sorry for himself, stop looking like he is about to burst into tears and then work on his game.

He has proven ability to beat players and cross/score.

The problems he has are all in his head.

If he can't get over them, he needs to be rested.

When you only ever receive a slow pass from your fall back with your back to goal just past the halfway line there's not a great deal you can do. He needs rest of team to move up the pitch and give him something to run forwards with.

I would agree with this. The same happened with Townsend yesterday unfortunately Ward had a mare.
The real problem is however that BFS has made it patently clear that we need clean sheets so this is constantly in the mind of the team now so breaking forward in support of the forwards is not going to happen. We can only hope that the introduction of Luca will free some of the team up to bomb forward as in days of old !

In yesterday's game I can't think of one time where he went to ground where he hadn't been fouled. What you're effectively saying is that he dives.

If the ref did his job and booked these cynical fouls then there wouldn't be a problem. Puncheon got done for one, whereas stoke had plenty that went uncarded.

Trouble is that he's prone to tantrums, then loses his rag.

Great player but he needs to get on his feet and get on with it - then he can become the new Ronaldo.

How many cards is he away from a suspension?
