Plus, their neglect isn't really all that unusual, if someone was popping back every 30 minutes or so to check on them. Parents, everywhere, do this or something similar. Really? Would you leave your pre-school kids alone in a holiday apartment 50m away, just popping back every half an hour?? When we're on holiday we go out to dinner WITH the kids every night - clearly we're at odds with popular opinion for doing so.....

Maybe Jamie has been in a Harvester with lots of wailing kids recently? Shouldn't joke, I agree with you masonic.

But I remember my mum leaving us alone in the garden when she popped to the shops, and being left in bed at holiday camps when we were kids. Pretty common back in those old days of the 70s - The camps ran a service where people would patrol the grounds at night listening for crying kids and then alerts would come over the tannoy.

Personally, I can't stand parents who take their kids out with them to bars, or restaurants when they're too young. Ranks right up there with family friendly pubs for a depressing experience. People who take their kids to a Harvester probably should be up on charges of child cruelty.

Something fishy about the whole thing. Oddly, I'm half convinced they may be guilty, and that the Portugese police f**ked the case up royally by not splitting the investigation at the start (as is usual) to investigate, and potentially clear, the parents whilst searching for an abductor.

Do you think if you moved this on 30 years to a time where we hear quite a bit in the media about wrong'uns she'd still have done the same? My mum used to play out in the street in the evening as a kid without any problems, but she recognised that when I was a kid times had changed and kept a much tighter watch on my whereabouts than was imposed upon her.

That last bit is quite big for me. Get them ruled out. I know they might say "ah, but it was a distressing time" but actually, I'd have thought in this country the police would rule out the close family from investigations pretty quickly. Hopefully sensitively, but it'd be procedure I imagine? I'm not an expert on law or police procedures though, so I am prepared to be corrected.

A few points here.. The ages of the children. At the time this happened I only had one child who was young. I now have further children , my youngest 3 very close in age and young. There is no way on God's earth anyone of sane mind would leave not 1 but 3 little children (babies and toddlers basically) alone in an apartment while they went out. I can't go.out the room some days to the bathroom without it being absolute chaos .. seriously Any thing could have happened to them. The biggest worry being one of waking up and getting out of apartment which incidentally was left unlocked. Basic safety issue. They used the services of child minders and a Creche during the day when they played tennis but not at night . Not saying they had Any thing to do with what happened as I really can't make my mind up but it certainly gives the impression of slap dash parenting. Finally Madeline had told her parents previously that she had cried for them having woken up the night previously and didn't like being left alone but they left them all there anyway. Think of them what you will with that in mind. Certainly makes me feel they were more pre occupied with adult time and enjoying themselves and f*** the kids to be quite honest
When I was a young girl my Mother said to me.. You listen here kid you're CPFC |

Yes stranger murders (yes I know there's no evidence she was murdered but just hear me out here) are incredibly rare. Most abuse happens within the home. Most people are murdered by people they know. That risk increases if you are a child and believe it or not the age you are most at risk of bekng murdered is when.you are under the age of 12 months. I studied law and forensics at a level and degree level . In the UK there is also the golden hour which is actually 24 hours after the person goes missing after this time the chances of the person turning up alive diminish rapidly. Family are always always looked at first as potential suspects or witnesses

Certainly makes me feel they were more pre occupied with adult time and enjoying themselves and f*** the kids to be quite honest I have seen a list of over 100 other inconsistencies and things that just don't sit right, but as has been alluded to earlier they do come from some rather rabid conspiracy theorists so I can't speak at all for their accuracy. It makes me not want to quote them because for all I know all of them are a lot of tosh. Some of them do seem to have originated from Goncalo Amaral and just general observations of interviews and evidence that is in the public domain. I think I'll be intrigued to see whether anything does come out of the woodwork in the near future though, seeing as it does seem to be bubbling up a bit again. No outcome would surprise me, I'm not clinging to any one particular theory. Edited by Part Time James (09 Feb 2017 4.36pm)
