So you're saying he deserves something? He won't understand a double negative, he's probably still puzzling about your comment now.

Two separate arguments. Agreed. There is a strong argument that honours are handed out to the wrong people - loads of celebrities and sportspeople - rather than those truly deserving. But under the current system, it is difficult to understand what more Beckham could really do to earn one? Countless pieces of charity work, going well above and beyond the minimal commitment. Promotion of the sport? Leading his country? Winning over 100 caps?

All methods of minimising tax liability. As soon as it was pointed out his tax affairs might raise an eyebrow he got out of the scheme he was in.

I'd also be willing to place a fairly substantial bet that Katherine Jenkins, and hundreds of other celebrities who have been honoured to equivalent levels, have made use of similar schemes. If they haven't then they've had the wrong financial adviser.

I think he is deserving. I think he is a decent bloke and always has been a great ambassador for British sport and does a lot of charity work. Of the people knighted in the last 3 years honour lists I'd say Becks is as deserving as most of them. I like him and think he deserved it.

I agree with you but the only reason why I'm pleased he hasn't been honoured is because it would make that awful and talentless wife of his Lady Beckham which would be the ultimate symbol of Britain dumbing down

I fear Becks rather queered his own pitch when, having sucked up to Wills and Kate, he turned up at their wedding wearing his OBE insignia on the right hand side of his morning coat and had to have it pointed out to him by a gentleman usher that decorations and honours are only ever worn on the left* Money cannot buy class.
