Regards Mutch he joined a side that had won 6 of their previous 8 games and doing well in the Championship. Perhaps he had far more opportunities to express himself in such a side as opposed to our struggling team.

Must be like a breath of fresh air for him joining such a team and playing in a modern stadium as opposed to being out of contention for us and playing in an archaic ground.I wish him well.

At least he's not sitting on the sidelines watching people who get £100,000 a week stand around like sheep whilst the bottom side scores against them at will.

What concerned me most on Saturday was just how poor our defence was. Going forward, I don't think we were all that bad, with 21 shots, and more than a few good chances created (some of which I don't know how we missed, and a couple that their keeper did well to keep out).

But the back three/four/wingbacks, keeper and defensive midfield seemed to be playing as individuals, rather than a team, and creating chances and space for Sunderland. That we conceded three goals, so quickly, underlined just how disjointed we are at picking up players, covering space, slowing up breaks and blocking out attacking balls.

Something, traditionally, we were very good at under Pulis, and even Pardew in his first 12 months. Now largely the same players were chaotic, disorganised and sloppy, with the first two goals being created by very poor errors in judgement (Hennessey, Ledley and Damo).

We also surrendered possession far to easily, in dangerous areas and times, something we never did under Pulis, or in the first tweleve months of Pardew.
