Fake News & Post Truth is a worrying development. You could not make up the Bowling Green Massacre story and yet, here we are. This is not about spin or bias but downright lies. I stopped believing what I see in the media years ago. This is one of those once in a generation things where people suddenly realise that they have been gullible up till now and then want to shout about how the have suddenly seen the light.

I don't think that historically there has been much in the way of outright lies, propaganda in wars and as I said earlier, lots of spin but that is very different to what is happening now.

I think there is a difference between being 'creative with the truth', such as interpretation of selected data and just telling out right lies. There is also of course something more serious, when its people we rely on to provide information and act in a reasonable manner (such as officals, jouranlists, leaders etc) who are just basically making any old s**t up. We expect politicians to deceive, spin and twist the truth, but for them to just simply lie outright is probably beyond the expectation of acceptable.

I expect politicians to lie and deceive, but I also expect them to be good at it. If you can just catch them out using f**king google, then they're woefully unqualified for politics. I mean if Trump can't sell me the lie, how the f**k is he going to sell it to a national leader.

Understood but surely something is either true or not. A half truth is as good as a lie, just less easy to notice perhaps. And the best lies are ones sandwiched between to truths or so the saying goes.

I think this kind of stuff just moves the goal posts a little. There must be an evolution of how media is used and how we interpret it. Perhaps there has been a shift to blatant lying from a more subtle form and we have to adjust our thinking to compensate. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (03 Feb 2017 1.25pm)

I don't think you can classify people preaching the Good News as "liars". You may not share their beliefs, but as a rule they are true to their convictions.

Oft seen on forums is the accusations against labour mp's about knowing about the Rotherham grooming gangs but did nothing. It became accepted knowledge by many it would seem.
Wonder if the story will be on the mails front cover?

Anyone who believes in the truth, any absolute truth, is lying. Its a linguistic fallacy, there are no absolute truths. All belief is simply ideas, without evidence to support the adoption of a hypothesis. Believing in things is for the weak minded.

Politicians in general are the worst people to be put in charge of anything, let alone a country. If politics was driving, we'd forever be listening to people tell us that we will be going somewhere, its just that we need to hold on just a little bit more and pay a little bit more, whilst in truth, they've sold the car for parts, and will eventually fob you off that it was your fault.
