I thought Townsend played quite well today with a good work ethic He always does that. He runs a lot, presses and recovers a lot of balls every game. He was the same against Arsenal, against Watford and pretty much in all matches.

Nah it's alright everyone on HOL we heard you and his apologists say. We've got Ledley who can play there. Yeah, he played zero minutes there this season. Or what about Ward? Nah fvck it. Pardew would rather destroy Kelly there week in week out for 2 months without any response to the problem. Then there's left wing. Instead of ironing out team plans with Townsend we replace Bolasie on the left with Townsend who wants the team set up for him and right back overlapping so he can do his trick to stay in the England frame. Names names names again. Honestly Ricky, you should look at Pardew as someone who's done himself no favours. All managers have injuries and bad ref decisions or bad luck but they ensure it stops, they send their teams out to get a result no matter what and they find their way round it or through it. How many times have we been done by a Villa or Sunderland without a win in x sent out to get a result no matter what. Pardew made things difficult for himself by taking chances the next week and the next week because of what happened in the 1st week. He was out of control because the variables he couldn't control he kept ignoring and kept hoping for 3 wins in a row. He won't ever get a prem offer for these reasons. He had the budget to use in the summer. The very budget Sam has now to use on the very areas that were vulnerable then. With the Townsend transfer Pardew thought he'd solved things on the left. Amateur and good riddance. Edited by Rudi Hedman (29 Jan 2017 11.52am)

I wouldn't be sad to see Townsend leave. Also Matteo won't keep defending him all the time...maybe pick Wilf as your fav player instead.

And it's possible they might be being strict with him with not letting him sulk his way out and making him attract attention if he wants out. That and a bit of love at the same time. Maybe good cop, bad cop. I dunno but they're getting work out of him. Needs to do it for a longer period if and when required because he will be required.
