Nah .... one reason players won't come is because they'll have to work to get us out of this mess. However, the main reason is likely to be because they think we'll go down and on that basis their income cannot be sustained indefinitely on a longer contract. The ones we do sign may either be stupid or really have a point to prove. Edited by Henry of Peckham (20 Jan 2017 6.33am)

This conversation is one to be had on February 1st. We nearly always take it to to the wire and have already spent 12m. I imagine that some of our targets will be waiting to see what their options are, but then wouldn't you? You can't expect a player with no affiliations to the club to be saying "I'm desperate to sign for a smallish Premier League club who haven't won a league game in recent memory." No, what we will be able to get are players like Schlupp who are just desperate to play PL football, or who are happy to play for us for the right terms. Loyalty and passion will only come with time. Foreign players may well be attracted to the fact that we're a London club and we do have some big name players, even if they haven't exactly set the world on fire. I doubt Allardyce will put players off any more than our toilet facilities.

Why won't players come ? Money is usually the reason. Jenkinson is just the latest example. And this isn't a criticism of the club / SP, because you can't pay everyone what they demand.

Agree nothing to do with Sam being here, most players don't care about anything but themselves. The Jenkinson example is classic, my reading of the situation is, he is currently a Gooners squad/reserve player, we show interest agree fee with the Gooners, he doesn't want to come as we won't pay more wages than the Gooners.

Players won't come because we won't pay them what they want. Admirable in many ways, though I fear it may backfire and we will end up losing far more as a result if we go down.

Presumably as Palace is a business as well as a football it club it has a wage structure and various rules/clauses/addendums within it. The board and SP are not willing to break those rules/clauses to accommodate certain individuals who want various personal caveats added or clauses removed in their own contracts to detrimentally effect the club as a whole or to cause friction within the squad. Although players are available I am sure it is extremely difficult to discuss personal terms with many of them (and their agents) when your is club perceived to be in with a chance of relegation at the end of the season. Whatever went on with Jenkinson I do not exactly know but he obviously wanted more than was being offered so there he stays at Arsenal's training ground. We as Palace fans just have to be patient and trust that SA and SP will be able to spend wisely and this time get hold of the quality players in the positions we need without spending recklessly. I for one believe that they will.

Well said, any player who is worth his sorts would take first team football at any cost rather than be a second or third string player at a big club with no game time!

I do not think the reason they are not accepting our offers is because of BFS. After all it is defenders we are after and BFS is supposedly an expert in defending and you would have thought players would like to learn from his so called expertise. I think it is down to money. SP will probably be trying to cover himself in any contract he offers by covering the eventuality of relegation and therefore wage reductions. As all players are mercenaries it has to be a major stumbling block.
