Well he did it with Sunderland, and that was arguably a much harder job. I think he's got his work cut out.

Parish categorically denied there was any sort of dossier.

I think what's interesting about Allardyce is that he often takes points off big teams.

One of the things we're worried about is missing out on points in the 'winnable' run we've just started on.

The hope would be if he can knock some confidence into these players that actually we might be able to take more points from the final run in then people expect at the moment.

Massive, massive job for him now though.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

Parish did make a mistake in failing to see the writing was on the wall for Pardew last May and he certainly should have acted after the Swansea away result, but I suspect that he would acknowledge that himself. I don't go along with the 'core player' argument; Bolasie wanted out, Jedinak had become a fringe player and Gayle wasn't favoured by four managers. Benteke was potentially a great signing and still would be with decent service in the right formation. Remy was a risk, due to his injury record, but is starting to look very good. Townsend is an arse and needs to be told to get on the left and start putting some crosses in or fcuk off. Flamini could be important influence if used well.

It's not necessarily too late for Allardyce to turn things around. He's still got two weeks of this window left and then he needs a few weeks to get the team playing the way he wants and for his coaching team to have an effect. No one can undo the damage that Pardew did to confidence and fitness in a few weeks. So yes, on balance SP should have acted quicker, but I do see why he was unwilling to do so. All is not lost until we're mathematically down, and until we are, I'm not giving up hope of a revival.

One of the best posts I have read on our current position. Nail on head. What I will say regarding SP is this....instead of looking at some of his/the boards poorer decisions look at all the ones they have got right. There is not many clubs with so many genuine fans on the board and as we know Chairman rarely get every call right. We all have to dig in and support even though at present it is difficult. We just need a win, however scrappy and against any opposition to start the confidence kick.
We are in good hands from SP down. COYP!

The 'dossier' dross has been debunked by Parish. Untrue.

In his post match interview, SA sounded like a man getting his excuses in early " got to Sunderland in Nov,had a chance to work with players and buy in Jan,didnt get that here " etc. So clearly,he'll take zero responsibility for relegation and all the credit if/when we escape!PR at its best

At Sunderland, he was appointed in October so had time to assess his players before the January 'Transfer Window'. At our club, joining in December, he has not had the same time to analyse the squad before the 'Window' and joined at a time when games were coming thick and fast.

However, most of our players now are internationals and he'll know a lot about most.

I don’t think SA can really say he hasn’t had as much time as he had at Sunderland to assess the squad, as he apparently had plenty of time to write detailed player assessments for the Americans. Presumably this impressed them enough for him to be appointed by the Board.
However, like lots of others on here, I believe the thing he desperately needs is a leader on the pitch.
It sounds just about believable that Pardew got rid of Jedinak because he saw him as a rival influence in the dressing room, but Dann and Delaney are still here. Unless SA can sign a John Terry type, surely he has to get alongside D and D, and get them to motivate the others. I remember seeing Delaney on his debut running about and yelling and organising his fellow defenders, and suddenly we had a defence, but what’s happened ? Even he looks as demoralised as the rest . This is where management is at it’s most important isn’t it ?… The manager, no matter how sophisticated, has to have the ability when a team is failing to lift a poorly performing squad of reasonably skilled players. They have to be encouraged to believe in themselves and play for their club, or if not they have to be dropped, no matter who they are. At the very least they have to rediscover their enthusiasm and fight, it’s football for pity’s sake, a game played for fun. Presumably SA does know how to do this, his time at Sunderland suggests he has done it before, which is possibly why he got the England job after the appalling Euros. The problem is now these old managers have grown a bit comfortable on being paid well if they fail, “Oh dear, we lost again…oh dear we’re going down… never mind another million or so will be on it’s way….”
This is the way it is I know, and won’t change in time to help Palace. I will be there again on Saturday forcing myself to sing ‘Glad all over” as they come out of the tunnel, just hope the players and Manager will feel the same.

Not sure he will have a detailed knowledge of them.
How many games will he have seen Ward,Delaney,Kelly etc play ? Or indeed Townsend,Puncheon etc. Not too many international appearances amongst that lot !

It is only when you see them in training and in matches that you manage that you can assess them as individuals and also as a team.

Have you actually read what anyone else has written in this thread as it has already been mentioned twice on this page alone that Steve Parish has debunked the story about Allardyce giving the Americans a dossier as being untrue.

Its been a while since Palace has really smashed someones career but will this be the low point and end of Allardyce as he finally gets relegated? We all assume managers and players will keep their performances at a certain level but did the England thing rock his confidence more than it appeared? We look absolutely woeful out there right now and on this form if we stay up it will be more about the 3 worse teams than us, than it will be about us. He saved the club and will go down in folklore but Parish is responsible for this total shambles. He dithered and wasted time and now Allardyce may not have enough time to sort himself, and us out. How Parish could be so reckless with the club and let Pardew sell our core players and then keep him in a job for 3 months too long is beyond my comprehension.

This is nonsense. It was obvious Parish and Pardew were desperate to keep hold of Bolasie, but he wanted to go. Jedinak wanted first team football, Pardew didnt want him playing so took the offer. Most Palace fans were in agreement with this at the time - he had a poor year last season and was playing much throughout our terrible run.

Gayle was not a core player. Anyone else?

I'm glad we've got Allardyce in and after recently reading his autobiography I've a few points to raise which concern me.

1. Not sure if he still does this but apparently he bans any use of video games on the coaches and hotels as he finds them addictive and can find it effects players performances if say a player loses and keeps losing they will get obsessed with trying to win and can stretch into games and affect concentration. Zaha is known for playing video games a lot ect and we know he can be childish at times?

2. His wife "Lynne" reads fans message boards...

3. Back in the days at Bolton, West Ham and Sunderland he seemed to really love the game. After his health scare and family problem's he's taken a step back, which we see now with him slumped in his chair.

Nothing major but something that stuck in my head whilst reading.

Yannick Bolasie - Glenn Murray - Wilfried Zaha

Most exciting attacking trio at Selhurst Park in years.

There are no three worse teams from what I can make out.
