Jenkinson should be an improvement and for £3m would be a good bit of business. And given we seem to be being quoted silly money for possible left backs, maybe this is just about getting Kelly out of the first team for the time being and we'll leave Ward at left back. In truth it's only when Kelly was playing left back that he looked poor. For me we have two right backs in him and Ward. It's left back that requires a new player and a back up. It appears Ward isn't rated by SA and that's why Jenkinson is coming in?

What we need is a competent LB, with Fryers as cover and a LW who can get forward and support the attack and knows the defensive duties as well. Anything else can wait. Our defence didn't suddenly change from being one of the best to the shambles they are now overnight. They've been severely Pardewed and have lost confidence as a result. Plus the loss of Souare, who wasn't universally rated on here when he was playing, has proved to be more significant than might have been expected. I'd hope that SA will get the left side sorted as a matter of priority and get the rest of the team playing the way they were pre-2016. The summer is the time for major overhauls, not now.

Picking up Jenkinson for £3-5 million is great bit of business but like others I am a little frustrated at the lack of LB. Allardyce was rumoured to have a comprehensive dossier on us and even plebs like me know we need a good LB as a matter of urgency. I would even hazard a guess my Mrs knows and she hates football. If true, the comments last week that Allardyce and Parish were going to meet to discuss targets beggars belief We have three league games this month, all of which individually, are winnable. Paying £1-2 million extra at this time of the season with up to 9 points available is not much of a gamble. What worries me is we end up with Jenkinson on the right and Ward playing the rest of the season on the left.

Sam said he wants a left back...so we will sign a left back. Just because a right back is available sooner than the left back doesn't mean we need to hold off signing that player. There will be several different targets and they wont all become available in the order that we would prioritise them.

This won't be the only defensive signing. We'll absolutely be getting a left back too plus a left aided midfielder. That will be the 3.

After Sam's press conference this morning it is clear that he has his focus purely on defenders at this moment in time. For those that havent seen it yet, he made a point that we have only 3 centre backs and only 2 full backs at the club which needs addressing. He even seemed to intimate that Fryers isn't really being considered as first team cover which certainly suggests that LB is a priority position. So expect a RB and a LB and even a CB. Don't expect anything upfront.
