Given the club's position, they might not want to take the risk on a player who might not settle in the UK let alone adjust to the differing demands of the PL in the short time that would be necessary to make a difference. Eaxctly. Mkhitaryan is class but he took months to adjust to the EPL & we don't have the luxury of time. Anyone without experience of this league would be a real gamble.

Leicester fan in peace. Schlupp is a bit of an enigma, he has the pace and power to cause any team in the league a problem. Unfortunately he doesn't have the brain to turn problems into an end product too often. He's one of those frustrating players that would be brilliant if they were smarter and more composed. I'm not sure where you want to play him, defensively he has the attributes to be a top modern full back. But again he lacks the brain to ever truly grasp where he should be positioned. We dropped him and De Laet from full back and we started to keep clean sheets. But we dropped him from being a winger as he didn't create enough. I think he'd be ideal as a wing back, doing a job at either end of the pitch, but with other people to back him up if he has a brain fart. It's one of them really that playing regularly and coached well with confidence he could turn out to be a bargain at £10m+. Or you might not find the right position for him, he doesn't gain confidence and it's a £10m sub on the bench.

They made this league the most attractive and even best in the world at some point (before some other foreign players, this time from La Liga, actually made that league the best). I would argue that, although we have some great foreign talent in the league, the amount of flops compared to gems bought into the league is very high. In fact, the majority of foreign players that thrive here either come through the big clubs youth setups or are bought in young or are top world class and would do well in almost every league regardless. Our type of target is a risk due to our size and league position. We need players in that we know can play this league, not someone cheaper that may turn out to be another Campana.

They are hugely important, where did I say they were not? But they are a bigger risk, particularly for a team that needs an instant impact, and which is what you have failed to address. Hence many teams in January will focus on players who already have PL experience, unless they cannot afford it. In which case they take a bigger risk by looking abroad.

Given they probably wouldn't be able to prevent it (after a lot of negotiation and yap) it would be less fire power for one of our rivals. Hopefully that happens last minutes and they've no time for replacement etc. Bearing in mind that West Brom had a £12.5m offer turned down in the summer I think that is just Leicester playing hardball rather than the January market. Appears to have many of the attributes we would want, but as the Leicester fan suggested, not always applied right.

I don't think comparing Schlupp as a left winger up against Townsend as a left winger is relevant. Townsend has been poor on the left and has pretty much given up in that position. He is a left footed winger who has only one interest and that is cutting in from the right to try and score goals...overall I feel he has been a major disappointment after he promised so much with his early displays. The fact he cant make it work on the left shows a lack of effort in my mind. So much ability but lacking in application. As for Schlupp I don't know what to think. Playing two positions and both problem positions for us would be a big plus. I would actually say yes bring him in but at 10m it just goes to show why the club are talking about signing 1-2-3 at most and not the 3-4-5 that we probably need.

He hardly played in their title-winning team, but for some bizarre reason is one of their most highly-paid players. It's estimated he's on £80,000 a week. a ton of money for an ordinary performer.

I looked it up, he played 24 times last season and was a regular starter until he got injured and was out for about three months. So, he played pretty regularly in their team last season.

People get annoyed about inflated prices, but we will be doing the same when trying to off load players. Just the way it is. We just got to hope SA knows what he is doing when it comes to incoming players?? Hard working players over so called flare players is definitely needed. Edited by MPE (09 Jan 2017 4.30pm)

We need hit n run kind of guarrantted form players as of right now. We can take chances on further potential gems in 6 months if we don't go down. This, common sense, no? I have spoken.
