For some reason, one I can't quite put my finger on, the chattering class thought that the election of Obama was the dawning of some kind of new, enlightened era. What a load of old bollocks that was. do you really know what you are talking about......?

Kind of connected, has anyone watched the Netflix documentary called 13th? Extremely enlightening and yet more proof of continued discrimination in the US even with an ethic president. Seems to be getting worse.
Most certainly not European. |

I don't know when Obama actually finishes but good luck to him and his family if he doesn't appear to have been particularly successful let history be the judge.

The Obama administration has been in power for eight years. It has pursued a benign foreign policy in those 8 years. Yet a few weeks before they handover power, this administration raises tensions in the Middle East through provoking Israel and s*** stirs with Russia, leaving Trump, a man they said during the election would destabilise the World, to deal with the fall out. As if there wasn't enough s*** flying around at the moment with Syria, Turkey, ISIS, etc., the administration decided to fling some more in the air: One cannot help but think that the Obama administration is trying to destabilise Trump by destabilising the World. If that is the case, then Obama, et al., should hang their heads in shame and we should welcome Trump, who already is showing a maturity in diplomacy by attempting to thaw relations with Russia. Goodbye Obama, Hilary, Kerry, etc. You won't be missed. Edited by matt_himself (31 Dec 2016 9.13am) F me Matt, at it again I see. You live on a different planet. Obama - against all the odds - implemented universal health care. He was faced by a ferocious backlash from the people who could afford their own healthcare and couldn't give a sh*t for anyone else. Many tried before him and failed miserably. He has held the ship steady during a period of dreadful turmoil. He is the most statesmanlike President I have ever seen. He is presiding over a resurgence of the US economy. As for the Russians, this is the first known time when an election has been deeply affected, probably the result changed, by nefarious external activity. Did you think Obama would just roll over? It isn't in Trump's interests for the full facts to come out now is it. I guess you think good luck to the Russians if they can get away with it, that's how the free market works right?

Unfortunately, that was from 2012 and many of those things either didn't happen, even if they were promised, or were not real achievements. E.g. Obamacare has increased costs massively and still doesn't cover everyone; Mubarak's cronies are still in power; the Iraq war hasn't ended it has spread; the bank bail out gave a bunch of rich people cash, and left poor people unable to get a mortgage; etc.

Impressive list one stand-out for me the Hate Crimes Prevention Act (2009). So his policy was to help eradicate hate crimes and not to advance them as our tory government does.

You might want to read this: Like many of the things done over the last 8 years, the headlines looked good even if the actuality did not match. Better than Bush, albeit he set a seriously low bar, and Carter, but even Nixon (another low bar) actually got America out of a war, brought genuine rapproachment between the Superpowers, and improved relations with China. Obama has been better than has often been claimed, but not that great. C+

'Obamacare' has been a disaster. 2. The US national debt has risen over 87% since Obama took office, unemployment is well above the 'official' figures of around 4%, a 75yr old record has been hit of young people staying at home with their parents (the highest since the 30's), student loan debt stands at an eye-watering 1.5 Trillion ( 0.7 Trillion in 2008 ), Food Stamp usage has risen dramatically (approx 46million users today, 26million when Obama took office), 46% of adults do not have enough money to cover a 0* emergency, 63% of Americans don’t have enough savings to pay for a 00** emergency, bankruptcies are up 40% over the past year, General Motors will temporarily close five assembly plants in January and lay off over 10,000 employees (Ford are temporarily laying off 9,000 workers), about six million people with subprime credit scores (below 620) are now at least 90 days past due on their payments for their car/truck and the effect of the recent rate hike (however small) hasn't even got a mention yet. *400 dollar
