Kone would be a superb buy a proper defender .

We should have gone for Defoe when he made it clear he was coming back from Toronto. We missed out then and wouldn't see the point of chasing a 34 year old now

The Sunderland chairman isn't ploughing any more money into the club so they have to sell if they want to buy. I can't see Moyes selling Defoe to anyone and if he's sold over his head I can see Moyes resigning

Defoe at 34 wouldn't command a significant fee so what would be the point of selling him ? If they really need to swell their coffes in order to purchase some players they would need to sell Pickford but he is out injured for a while.

He wanted a very long contract I seem to remember, 4-5 years, valued at about £14 million which might of put us off. Obviously proved good value for them. Don't think he will be going anywhere this season.

I completely understood why we sold Gayle as our style lends itself to a big chap up front.

To sign Defoe would be a bit galling in light of Dwight's 467 goals for Newcastle this season.

It maybe that the manager change will bring a different style where a Gayle type player will fit in. This is all about decision timing Gayle might not have been transferred if BFS had been our manager at that point in time.

Erm, I think Benteke does a good deal apart from taking penalties. And that duty could be delegated to someone else, of course.

Please define 'good deal' as I am at a loss to think of anything other than in the warm up?

no way are we after both.

Sam quoted as after 2 players ...20 Mil also mentioned...buying these two would not solve our biggest problem...the left hand side of the pitch ..

Kone injured and could miss Afcon, clattering into an advertising hoarding could be long tern damage to knee

Would be just what we need

Well more just what Sunderland need to send them down lol. Interestingly it looks like Sunderland won't have money for the transfer window... So may need to sell.

We won't get Kone (I suspect bigger clubs have their eye on him) but defoe, even if he never played, could be enough to see Sunderland finish 3rd from bottom.

That's a nailed on signing then? As for Defoe I cant see Sunderland selling to us. An alternative selection would be Toronto's Sebastian Giovinco who is way too good for the MLS & would be a good stop gap striker until the summer.
