Looks like I owe my source an apology. Big Sam does want him and is keen to trigger an 11m release clause. Contacted my mate who couldn't talk for long but said we'd have to sell first. Serious interest from abroad for Cabaye. Wonder if he will be sacrificed. We need a DM more than we need Cabaye, but we do need someone with Cabaye's passing accuracy.

Why would he extend if we're interested in hin and he's interested in us? Would be most peculiar

Not saying that you are wrong but is that realistic? I think it could be. M'vila said on the summer deadline day that a deal had been arranged between him and Sunderland permanently but then on deadline day they tried to contact them to finalise the deal but could not get a hold of them. This probably upset him as he wanted to return to sunderland but was cancelled at the last minute. (This was said by M'vila on social media on deadline day. However Sunderland have denied this claim, saying that they backed out before because he wasn't committed to joining. So conflicting evidence here.) So then when Sunderland went back in for him he probably thought "They didn't want me in the summer, so I'd rather stay where I am wanted" and signed a new deal. Now that SA is back in for him (reportedly) he might like to follow him here as he was the manager that brought him in on loan. This all could be another case of lazy journalism however. I'm not saying that any of this is 100% true, I am only going by what the player said and trying to make sense of it.

My understanding is that he could've gone to Sunderland last year for £8m but they chose not to sign him after his loan period, instead came to an agreement to pick him up in January (now) on a free as his contract ran out in December. He chose not to join them and (I presume because there was no other interest he liked the sound of) he signed a new contract where he was. Since then, the reason he agreed to join Sunderland in the first place (SA) has become Palace boss. Kind of adds up - just a shame the new contract has such a high release clause.

Sounds just the player we need to add defensive steel

Hope this signing comes off. We missed that defensive steel all season. 11m seems a bargain in this market.
