My hometown club is Toronto FC which has, since its start in 2007, has fired at least one manager each year (up until recently). In the last series of sackings they even fired the equipment manager, a much loved older guy who had been with the club since day one.

The new management team was making a statement: losing is no longer acceptable. Since then we've had the same manager for 2 years in a row (Yay!) and are a much more successful team going to the final game.

My point is, sometimes you just need to clean house completely to change the character of the team. You can't really fire all the players, but you can clean out the clubhouse and that usually shows you mean business. Harsh business, but there it is.
