I remember a few years ago how everyone was clammering to have 'professional' referees (rather than blokes turning up for a small fee) in the sure and certain knowledge that this would lead to a vast improvement in standards across the board.

Well that worked well didn't it?

Now everyone wants a video referral system except those at the top (FIFA/FA), as it would really show up any shortcomings in standards by a lot of the supposedly best referees around.

My OH (a non football man) reckons they are all bent as this would be the only excuse for it all. Whatever did happen to all those far east gambling rings by the way?

There have certainly been some decisions in some games where you have to wonder.

Willo there was no need to post then.!!

Anyhow it is extremely difficult to referee or be a Linesman, when you only see the incident once.

The Goal Line technology has been brilliant for the Referee,s.

Same as us Palace Fans after viewing the Chelsea goal say:-

World class goal.
Danns fault.
Hennessy,s fault.

Answers Holers ?

Consistency and favouring bigger clubs are my main complaints.

Marcos Rojo makes two red card tackles in a week and escapes both times. Vardy does one and is sent off immediately. And to cap it all he's sent off by a referee who missed one of Rojos!

These incidents sum up both the inconsistency and favouritism accusations.

You always get the argument that things even themselves out over a season. They don't. The bigger clubs get some bad decisions but nowhere near their share.

And don't get me started on players such as Rooney getting in the refs ear all match. Of course it has an effect.

I'd argue that Vardy was sent off partly because of the tackle, but mostly because Pawson had such a rough ride in the media regarding Rojo - and other big decision in the Man U game.

I agree.i don't remember Howard Webb making so many wrong decisions.

I'm all for instant video replay evidence. I know it stops the game but rather this than lose a game over incorrect decisions .

Unless the referees get braver when refereeing the Big V Small teams the only way to get justice is use the video evidence.
The example of Vardy being sent off for two footed out of control tackle, and Roco not (twice) is consistently going on in favour of the big teams.
We play Man U , and now you can almost guarantee the first big decisions, so more vital, all go in their favour.
It was funny watching Wenger moan about their decisions yesterday, he forgot they were playing away against a team as big as them so they won't get every decision.

The only reason threads like this give you hypertension is because you're more a s***e referees' apologist than a Palace fan. You can't even express the slightest empathy for fellow fans of the club you supposedly support when they have to watch their club being ripped off every other match, can you?

These people are paid to do an impartial and professional job and they act either like bought men or like blind clowns. And if their job is not feasible in the modern game, they should say so.

Perhaps you should write to the Minister for Sport. We used to write "vexatious" on treat officially correspondence from lunatics, but you might have more luck.

I don't know why the Prem don't instigate a retrospective punishment, i.e. a ban and/or a fine, for those who con the ref. I'm sure the likes of Snotgrass, Shane Long, etc would soon learn how to stay on their feet.

Spot on. There used to be a charge of bringing the game into disrepute. If players can be charged and banned for a foul the ref does not see at the time why can't cheats like Snodgrass be charged and banned also especially as it was widely seen on TV.
