I thought the force awakens was 'decent enough'. It did what it needed to do, settle the 'prequel' horror jitters and establish the franchise again. Granted its just 'A New Hope' in different clothes and a different era. But its passes the torch on well bridges the gap between RoJ and FA well enough. Can't wait to see Rogue One (well I can, as I'm going on Boxing Day). The idea of a series of 'independent' Star Wars stories is very exciting. Been to see it yet Jamie? Thoughts? Largely agree with the Force awakens thing but still feel they overused ANH plot points. Also feel that in all the sag films, the death of planets and nameless rebels has no impact on the viewer. It's Rogue one that really captured the panic of an insurgency and the tragedy of death, it felt like a war movie which is the first time in star 'wars' that I have felt that.

Rogue One? Who came first? Michael Gove or Boris Johnson? (This was reputedly the Cameron family household XMAS cracker gag that was subsequently passed on to George Osborne... to complement recycling of Tory policies....)

Probably the best Darth Vader scene in the entire series.

Absolutely loved Rogue one - So much so it inspired a day of Star Wars movies - and its going to be controversial, but its probably the best or the bunch - although only because it has the benefit of being made, written and directed nearly 40 years on. Whilst the originals held up well - They do lack the tightness and construction of Rogue One, and its originality - as well as benefitting from a script that can actually be read - and of course being free of George Lucas' 'additional useless material'. I really like the idea of having 'star wars' stories that feed in or around the official numbered movies and 'fill in the blanks'. I'd be happy for them to go back and make the prequels. Nice touches on the special affects as well to include pilots from the death star assault.

Have now, and am going back soon to see it again. And I hate going to the cinema! The whole 'death star / star killer' thing needs to go. I'll give FA a pass on the basis of being part reboot. Empire thrives by having a different plot (and in RoJ the second death star is surely the most ill conceived trap in the history of elaborate traps).

Great film. Been waiting 30 years for a proper Star Wars film and this was it. No rubbish or cheesy characters just ones that aided the storyline. Hopefully they will do others in a similar vein and they can get the story films back to being Star Wars again.

I got to watch it on Laser IMAX on an 80x60 screen, 8k definition, 52,000 watts of 12 channel sound through 114 speakers. I was concerned the technology would outshine the movie, but it didnt, it just enhanced it beyond anything i could have ever imagined. Best damn action movie in many years, top notch.

A lot of people busted a hard gut on that movie (myself included) so it's good to hear that it's gone down well. On the whole, I personally don't think it was better than Force Awakens, but visually/tonally it obviously feels more like New Hope which was the aim.

I've now seen it three times since boxing day.

I saw the first Star Wars movie when it came out and I thought it was average. I was about 13. I watched a couple over of the film over Christmas and it confirmed what I already knew. Star Wars is a lot of old cobblers. Looking forward to the new Star Trek TV series myself. Lets hope it's better that the largely appalling recent movies Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (03 Jan 2017 4.03pm)
