..no, I feel they did enough to win it, they could see we were well organised for a change and it wasn't easy to score but once they did they have such a strong unit in defence that they could just enjoy the rest of the match knowing they could stop our threat from puncheon and Zaha which they did very well, Fàbregas was wonderful for them to bring on and highlighted beautifully the difference between the sides, we were solid today and it took a world class cross and header to beat us and that is why with Pardew we will never go down.

Thought in general we played well - as we did on Wednesday. Excellent cross but the header was unchallenged and looked like a bit of a mix-up between Hennessey and Dann.

I think the result was a little flattering to us, considering chelsea are off a 10 game winning streak, 1-0 on the face of it doesn't appear tol bad. I think chelsea were defensivley outstanding- yet we didn't test them. We had an inability to forward pass with any sort of accuracy and offered nothing going forward. I think chelsea now how to grind out a result.

For me we need serious investment in january and a change in manager. Im glad we beat Southampton, but one win, then countinued losses should not give pardew a stay of grace.

Typical "hopeful" thread blaming everything but Pardew for another defeat.

Was Hennessey really at fault for their goal?

Did we ever look like scoring.... our two best chances were poorly executed by Puncheon and Macarthur.

For once Pardew put out our strongest possible starting XI but against the inform hard to beat Chelski.... if he started with that same XI (with Flamini in for puncheon) against Manure we might have got 3 points instead of none.

Lee is a lightweight and barely makes an impression on games. Mourinho must have been delighted with the team we put out to face his team on Wednesday night.

I'll bet Pardew will select a different starting lineup on Boxing Day away to Watford again, but this time bringing in Mutch.

I don't think Pardew has a clue.

We really need to look at the big picture, for the whole year, not just one or two mistakes. The stats show mostly one loss after another.
This is due to a lack of mental strength, coming from the manager. We don't lose because of one or two mistakes and bad luck from refereeing decisions.
We lose because we don't have a manager with the mental strength to give the players the confidence to make sure we go and win games.
To make sure, for instance, that we attack in the other side's half in the last few minutes of each half trying to score another goal and make sure we win the game rather than hope to hold on.
The other side can't score if you are in their half.

So OK as you say then and not EXCELLENT?

If you watch the games again it's like watching attack v defence drills. Hopefully it'll do us some good because nothing super well below average Al does has any effect.

So it's like watching us under Pulis. Against the big boys it's the right way to go IMO and something I thought AP was incapable of doing. Clearly a change in his beliefs because of our position I assume, which in a small way is refreshing. The big test now is to see if we have learnt our lessons and can attack the others without going too gung-ho and throwing away points. I have my doubts.

Think Burnley and Hull prove you wrong there.

OK, we didn't concede at such a rate as in recent weeks but we still lost both matches (we now have the worst home record in the division) and I thought we still played poorly in both.

Probably will get a point at Watford but lose at Arsenal.
Will the board trust AP to spend in the window to get things right.
Doubt it,after 2 years in charge ,we will probably start 2017 in the bottom 3 and Pardew has ran out of time.

We played ok again yesterday against an obviously very good chelski team, but it was about as comfortable as a 1-0 win can get for them, if it wasn't for Hennessy and the cross bar the score would've really showed the difference in class, they had another couple of gears they could've moved into if we'd really started to cause them problems.
We didnt get hammered so that was a result for us, we all know the games we need to and are more capable of winning now!!

Agree with OP.
It's been a terrible run of results and perhaps the only good luck has been in the shape of other teams failing to take real advantage.
I'm glad we have the owner/manager set-up that we have as this has prevented panic decisions in sacking/hiring, with this perhaps ending in a worse (yes) downward spiral of selling good players as a new man sets things his own way.
We should be achieving more with this squad but have under-achieved on the field of play.... not all due to injuries. And not all due to the manager.
The opinion expressed in the above statement is mine alone and no furry animals were hurt in the typing of it.

We move in the direction of our thoughts.
Just think a little.

I wouldn't worry about being toothless in attack! Think that's the first game...Since spurs that we haven't scored?

We all expected to loose against united and spurs and we wanted 4 points from Southampton/ hull we did!
