Used to walk from hawthorn avenue, along green lane, onto parchmore road and down through the high street. I lived but 5 mins from Hawthorn Avenue back in the day. We walked an identical route just 25 years apart

Doesn't anyone walk to Selhurst these days? Remember when I was a kid walking up Green Lane and Brigstock Rd onto the High Street and the throng getting bigger and bigger the closer to the ground you got Vindaloo-video style. That just upped the ante of excitement. ..yes, it was the best way to go.

We used to walk from Bentons lane round to the Park tavern in Elder rd, then up the hill to Crown point and the Rose and Crown. Onwards from there stopping in the Conquering hero, (looking at the lovely pond nextdoor) then over the top of Anerly Hill and downhill all the way to the ground. Like you, I was a lot fitter then with speed skaters legs so still had enough breath to cheer through the whole game whilst standing and jumping around. Now I can just about drive into Sainsburys car park and stroll into the Glaziers bar and find a chair!
