I was looking at Geoff Thomas on the Palace Season 90/91 vid recently. He's better then than all the midfielders we have now. £50,000 he cost.

But agree on attacking midfielder role. Deffo worth a punt.

Really? Its all about opinions but i dont think he is better than Cabaye. More effective in that team tho.

Not a question of jettisoning him. Some clubs might show an interest and he might decide he wishes to 'Plough his furrow' elsewhere, besides the overall deal could be tempting for us.

I happen to believe that a lot more was expected of Cabaye than he has actually delivered. Not shown the form he showed under Pardew at Newcastle.

Cast your mInd back to that horrible windy, rainy Saturday before Christmas 2013 (when poor Kayla got blown out of the stadium) and how Cabaye single handedly gave us an absolute spanking. I've seen none of that from him since we signed him.

Cabaye is quality and works his socks off. You cannot blame him for being made to play a defensive midfield role. I would love to see him played as an attacking midfielder, Benteke would benefit from his passing range.
Christ how spoilt some are on here we are not Real Madrid.

Totally agree with this.

What stats?

It's amazing that we all see such different qualities in players. Apart from his dead ball play I think he's class. And his pass completion rate is top draw.

Have a look at where most of his passes are completed, many of them ten yards sideways and backwards around the halfway line.
This is why he has 0 assists this season and only 1 last season.

Guedioura, Bannan, Gayle, Williams and Grandin could've been sh*t hot in a different system. But they weren't and we flogged them.

I must admit, I was getting carried away when I said Grandin.

Whilst Cabaye has not been the player we imagined he would be I really do not understand the negativity towards him.

Yes he has had a few poor games in the past eighteen months but then so has every player in every team in every country.

As a midfielder he works tirelessly, rarely gives the ball away, is tenacious in the tackle, albeit overly so on occasions, can pick out a good long pass, gets up and joins the attack and has better vision than any other midfield player we have.

Unfortunately he seems to fall between two stalls in being neither the full on defensive or attacking midfielder we require. Good as he is defensively he is never going to be sitting in front of the back four all game. As a playmaker he tends to drop too deep on occasions so rarely makes his good runs in to the box regularly enough.

I think alongside a Jedinak type defensive midfielder is the best role he could play for us. This gives him the opportunity to go forward when he wants and drop back and help as necessary.

Were we to sell him I think that we would be lucky to get more than seven or eight million given his age. It is a shame because it has just not worked out as we, and I am sure he, would have hoped. Still though he is a damn good player and getting rid of him in January would, IMO, be lunacy.

Well said. Very short sighted thinking to want to ditch Cabaye. What if Ledley or Macarthur get injured? The injuries we had already this season show we need a strong squad not just a good first 11.

Ledley isn't very good on a regular basis. One decent game and everyone wants him in the first team.
He's like Gayle was, impresses to get a start the next game , then goes missing after that. Championship player.

Grandin was quality, just needed a bit more time.

Perhaps in a game other than football though.

It's all about opinions and it's interesting to see how we all watch the game with different lens.

IMO he just doesn't work for us. And always looks on the brink of getting sent off (he's certainly got a nasty streak).

I'm one of those hoping Pardew doesn't wear the rose tinted and get him back in the team. I prefer a first 11 without him.

Now here's Wright, his first chance to see what he can do, and he's through, it's Wright, ohhhh what an impact by the substitute. And it's Ian Wright who's sent the Palace fans into ecstasy!
