i seem to remember people saying pre-season that scotty dann was a perfect replacement for jedi as captain as he was actually going to be on the pitch. is he the latest scapegoat after pardew/woodman/kelly/millen/bentek/tomkins/hennessey/townsend. grow up

Delaney has always been the leader at the back. Dann seems to have stepped up to the plate a little but I still do not see him rallying the troops, calming everyone down after we score etc like Jedinak or Delaney. Not scapegoating, just an observation. Edited by Mad4palace (27 Nov 2016 11.11pm)

The fitness, focus, spirit, camaraderie, playing for each other, covering a player's mistake (something Hambo highlighted on HOL radio) gradually evaporated and when a player or 2 was injured last year and wins were hard to come by, those qualities fig you out of this s sh1t. Pardew has burnt a lot of bridges and seems as though some of the glue has gone. That picture of Delaney asleep on the bench I'd like to see. Speaks volumes. This. In that starting 11, name me a player that is a leader and bleeds red and blue. We all know about the psychological effect of playing with team mates who you trust 110%

Jedinak is a great leader, but most people were criticising him for his lack of passing ability and lack of pace last season, with many saying 'thanks for the memories but it's time to move on.' He would have been great to have around the squad, but he is not the player he was and at this level he should not be in our first team. Plus, he never played well off the bench. I loved Jedi, but we need to look forward. Delaney is a good short-term fix for leadership, but in January I would be tempted to look for a tough-tackling no-nonsense player to do the dirty work. With regard to the coaches we need to review that situation too. What's Lawrie Sanchez up to these days?
