Why the hell did we buy him then as it seems rather daft to buy a right winger then insist that he plays on the left

Because Pardew doesn't think about these things. I assume he knew Bolasie would probably be leaving, yet he still didn't ask for a left sided winger.

He is lazy with a bad sulky attitude, no better than Sako really.

How he gets picked for England squads is a bit of a mystery.

At last, someone who sees the same as me.

Perhaps we could sell him?

I'd like to get Kaikai back from Brentford to replace him.

Was listening to the guardians weekly footy review last night, and one guy on there said he heard that townsend was supposed to play on the left in the first half, but swapped with wilf at some point without asking 'permission' and that's why he was replaced at half time....

Kaikai would no doubt jump at the chance to come back as he must be fed up with sitting on Brentford's bench

Brentford's bench to our first team; this doesn't quite add up.

Bring back Brolin

It's all part of Alan "Pardridge" Pardews new game plan, play everybody out of position to confuse the opposition.....a master stroke.

True but people seem to think that the answer to our problems lies in our youngsters but with the exception of Luke Croll none of our lads out on loan are regular starters for the clubs they are playing for

After Saturday i would play Townsend in the 10 role where he can run at the back four. Punch can play on the left where he will give more cover. To play at number 10 you have to weigh in with a few goals and Punch's goal record is abysmal. Townsend will offer more threat in that role where he can roam free

I suppose it wasn't unreasonable to expect that a left-footed winger would be more than capable of playing on the left and putting in crosses to Benteke, with Zaha putting them in from the right. That would seem to be a more effective tactic than Townsend playing on the right, cutting in and running into traffic. He's here to do what he's told, not what he likes.

When Townsend joined we had an established left and right winger and it wasn't until after he joined that Bolasie left so it makes me wonder exactly what was discussed between Townsend and Pardew about the former's likely role in the team

Who knows, but circumstances change and, particularly at the moment, we need personnel with a 'can do' attitude that will pitch in and do their best, whatever the role. Townsend doesn't strike me as being in that mould and prefers behaving like a sulky teenager.
