I really, really, really hate saying this, BUT, if his contract is paid up and he's available instantly I'd take Barton in a heartbeat. Yes I know he's a knob. Am I going crazy?

I was tempted to post this suggestion myself! Just the kind of player in my humble opinion that we are missing. We have absolutely no leaders on the field at all.

Yesterday again players arguing with each other all over the field. None of them seem to want to take responsibility, constantly pointing the finger at each other.

I can see worrying times ahead if the team is not quickly galvanised and sadly I don't see Pardew being the man to do this.

This is indeed a major issue. The second goal was nothing short of embarrassing and is down to lack of leadership on the pitch. It's not the first time is it?
I think SD is a great player for us but it is becoming increasingly evident that he is not a leader and captain. Delaney possibly the nearest we have to anyone who can do that job although I fear his performances may be affected if he cannot concentrate solely on his own game. Clearly the goalkeeper should dictate if posts are covered even at the expense of the manager's preferences, so I would question what Hennessey's role in all this is.

Wish there was an easy answer but for the time being if Dann retains the Captaincy, he needs a proper kick up the a*se as do his players. As for the Barton suggestion, do we really need to go for someone like that?

Christ, you think Barton is a leader? The man falls out with every dressing room he's ever played in?

Think a big part of the issue is lack of consistency in the team.

We play the same players, but we've been forced to make so many minor changes each week we're just not settled, and that's what causes people to miss marking, not drop in while the other goes forward etc.

Look at the back five. We've had both Mandanda and Hennessey now. At centre half we've varying partnerships of Delaney, Dann and Tomkins. Ward and Kelly have both played left and right back and we've also had Souare of course.

In front, we've had Cabaye, McArthur and Puncheon all available but we've been struggling to get the system right. Puncheon is influential but always stuggles as a number 10 and doesn't get close enough to Benteke. So against Liverpool we play him deeper which is where we get more from him and push McArthur forward. Problem is then McArthur's partnership with Cabaye is broken and we don't look anywhere near as solid. So yesterday we start with McArthur and Cabaye together, are more solid, but Punch can't get on the ball enough.

Point is, we've had so many slight variations on system, personnel etc this season. I think yesterday ended positively in that we might have solved that midfield issue by dropping Townsend, moving Punch to the left and having Wickham off Benteke. That keeps the McAbaye partnership and we looked cohesive going forward.

If we can keep Hennessey/Dann/Tomkins (or Mandanda if that's what Pards wants) together for four/five games I think we'll look a lot more solid. If the answer is plugging someone else in at left back as well, then I do think this mistakes will disappear.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

John Terry - January transfer window

Not likely to get a look in at Chelsea. Just make sure he has enough appearances to get a title winners medal (with them not us)

Heard lots of his pay is based on appearances so may be finding things a bit tough

in fact, whilst I'm at it make him player-manager. No need for pardew and if he does a good job will be shoo-in for Chelsea job when Conte self-combusts

I wonder if Pardew fears a player with leadership qualities on the pitch might be a rival to him. I think that might be an exaggeration but Jedi has gone and Delaney might be sidelined by Tompkins. Dann doesn't seem to be one I'm afraid.

This is such an important role. Look at Swansea without Ashley Williams. (Not sure if we ever stood a chance of getting him but I know we were linked in rumours at one stage - shame we missed out)

Address this and we can fly again.

Cabaye is the choice for me.

Dann is not vocal enough and it was, IMO, his fault we lost to Burnley. He is the man of the pitch who should have been telling the players to hang back and settle for a point. Instead he leads the charge up the pitch and our lack of decent cover leaves us exposed for them to get the winner.

For me our leader is sat on the Bench and not being utilised by Pardew. Step forward Mathieu Flamini.

He's a Champions League player. Definitely should be given some starts.
