AP has made a big error of judgement in my personal view in the press today. Clean sheets = no losses. You can entertain but underpinned by a solid defensive foundation. Look at Conte at Chelsea. With the same players he has turned that team around dramatically this season...with 3 at the back and 5 in midfield, with two old fashioned wing-backs. This is a 1950's style of play, adapted for today. He has mixed "cattenacio" defending with great forward play. As a fan of nearly 50 years, I am bothered greatly by the fact that our tenure in the PL is seriously at risk now, by adopting a style that is 1970's Brazilian but with less overall team skill. Defending is a basic for modern football. You don't concede goals, you don't lose. I for one think the defenders need to perhaps "listen to AP" then "go back to basics" on matchday and remember the drills TP used to use. Don't get me wrong, TP did the dirty on CPFC, but he has proven that if you defend well and are organised, you can survive in the PL. After all, we and CPFC 2010 owners want this too, including our US investors. We are totally disorganised at the back. I would liken the manager's role at a football club, to a top asset manager in the City. A football manager is "investing" in the squad and their playing style. If I was a CPFC investor, I'd be very worried right now. The games until Xmas are now crucial. If we are not on 20+ points by Xmas, AP is history in my view, and that would be sad, but inevitable.

I'd be more worried if he said they had been his priority, and he nevertheless failed to attain any. What he ought to say is 'getting clean sheets is now our priority'. If we don't sort that defence out we're spiralling downwards.

Surely its obviously that something is very wrong with things, You can actually see that with some of the interviews of the players Like many others on a Saturday it takes all my day going through team selections all the permutation, This season it seems that even the players don't really know where they should be or what they should be doing. And that fault must be with a highly paid smug, conceited manager Wilfs Body Language on his interview with MOTD told me all I need to know, lots of shrugging of shoulders when answering questions, never once looked the interviewer in the eye when answering, lots of eye contact when questions are asked, but as soon as the answers start coming out of his mouth the eye contact goes and he looks anywhere but the camera or the interviewer, which basically means he has no conviction or belief in the answers he is giving. And no I'm not doctor Cal lightman but I have had some basic level Body language reading, and that s*** is day one week one. Edited by dannyh (08 Nov 2016 11.17am)

I agree, the home form under AP has never been great, we give away points to the most unlikely visitors and especially to teams around us who we need to beat at home and at least take a point in the away fixture to be sure of staying up. There are games in PL that we are not expected to get anything from and most of us would be happy to accept this as long as we tried to win those games or least try and take something away. My concern now is that we are in deep trouble tough fixtures to come a team that is leaking goals and the defenders are scoring more than the forwards. We need at least a quality defender, mid field player and a possible goal keeper in the next window and we are not going to be attractive to these quality players if we are in the drop zone!

With that amount of bulls*** flying about it's no wonder he has problems with his laundry. Seriously though I'm hearing nothing that makes me think there is any chance of this shambles being sorted out as long as this muppet is in charge.

This does not mean abandoning defensive principles but adopting a more positive approach to the game. Perhaps his real message is - We are in "Transition", I am trying to build a team that you supporters will enjoy watching rather than a functional team looking for 1-0 wins, so "Cut me some slack" as I work towards this. Thing is that Pardew is running out of credit amonst many who are calling for his departure and perhaps anything he says would be criticised by those who want him out. Edited by Willo (08 Nov 2016 10.09am) Hi Willo I get your point about building a team, But at this rate he is building a team for the championship not the Premier, And many teams have changed the way they play over the years, But do you really think thats the reason we are getting poor results? What is his excuse for the last 20 games of last season? And i am not anti Pardew just pro Palace survival, Cnt see it happening under him

Good post very true. You have to do the basics and work hard first and foremost to earn the right to play 'loveley' football. Personally I would rather see Palace win 1-0 than watch us 'slaughtered' but entertained by Liverpool beating us 4-2.

Well on reflection, they f**king should be at least by half time, when we decide to get going. Burnley we were 2-0 by half time, away from home, which is a serious setback to overcome. We did that, and then decided to not bother defending and keep pushing for three points, and ended up with none. Which means if we lose to Man City, which is very likely, we'll dip under the 1pt per game average that's usually enough to stay up.

I am not getting into a Pardew IN or OUT debate for reasons which I shall keep to myself.

AP is losing the plot and has become obsessive about having a team full of strikers, he is really losing it, the expensive strikers that we have added to our team get injured too easily or just cannot score, thus the defenders end up scoring but letting in more than they score at the other end, cannot see us being in PL much longer if this is allowed to drag on without SP et-al taking some remedial action before it is too late!
