Very tight between 9th place and 18th place Glass half full thinking: 2 points off 10th place Glass half empty thinking: We are only 1 point above drop zone with a difficult November and December coming up What is important is we learn from the mistakes ... but there are few signs of improvement in our defending. Let's hope there is a focus on basics in the coming weeks

Not normally a doom and gloom merchant - having been palace since about 1967 I have seen us snatch defeat from the jaws of victory more times than I can remember, but for what its worth - AP gets the Jan transfer window to shore up the defence but if by Feb end / 1st week of March we are in the relegation zone or just above (looking likely to be a candidate for the drop) we will go for a Sam A type manager to settle the ship & try to ensure that we escape relegation. Obviously that kind of "get out of jail" card rather depends upon someone like Sam being available & our opponents at the back end of the season having read the correct script & agree to playing their parts the way we want them too.

It's always refreshing to read a sensible post. Not been on here for a while as it is normally doom & gloom after a poor run of results.

It's still relatively early in the season but after this international break the fixtures come thick and fast. Pardew will get more time but realistically, the job of keeping us up gets harder in the second half of the season if we haven't bagged enough points by New Year. I'm sure the next 6 weeks or so will determine his fate.

Shocked by the Eddie Howe stat. Eddie Howe stat amended in OP. Actually he has 16 points from the last 19 Premiership game as opposed to Pardew's 20 from the last 19.( which included the eight matches in the midst of the cup semi and final). Funnily enough though Pulis has a worse track record than Pardew over the last 19 (17 from 19) and he's just been offered a contract extension!!

After 11 matches we are 2 points off 10th place , having played 5 home games and 6 away compared to teams like Leicester and West Ham who have had the benefit of the extra home game. There are only 4 teams in the league who have scored more goals than us And people are saying there are no reasons for Pardew to keep his job. Well in that case the following should all be sacked; Eddie Howe - 16 points from his last 19 premiership games Pardew has 20 points from his last 19 premiership games Koeman for losing 0-5 at Chelsea Ranieri, Bilic and Puel for all having teams that qualified for Europe last season , yet are currently 14th, 17th and 10th respectively. Well that's 8 premiership managers that are relatively currently underperforming Pardew at the moment , but we have to be the bed wetters like Newcastle,Fulham,Villa who pull the trigger too early ? Pardew's mandate should be to keep us up ( and possibly a good cup run). He did both last year and the former the year before. He kept Newcastle up for 4 seasons and soon as they let him go they were relegated. There is no reason why he won't repeat the same , particularly with the team we have now. And you can add to that that our net spend in the transfer window was £8.8 million, the 16th least spend in the premiership, lower than Bournemouth and Stoke who both had over twice that .Also you can add Moyes with a net spend of over £20 million to the list of managers currently underperforming Pardew .So that is actually 9,and Mourinho with a net spend of over £150 million, but only 7 points more, could make it 10 ! Edited by kennys boots 79 (06 Nov 2016 10.27pm) Edited by kennys boots 79 (07 Nov 2016 8.18am) Very good post. Do you feel when you watch us that we are playing well looking likely to turn things around? For me watching Palace you get the feeling we are far to soft, players don't really know there jobs and are defensively very poor.
The ups and downs of Palace have left me older than my years |

Whenever you show other fans our current team on paper, everyone thinks it's a good team , but their eyes are drawn to the midfield and forward names.

Nice thread, good to read there are a lot of sensible fans out there. I think there are. After such a dramatic and painfull defeat this place is awash with high emotion and knee jerk reactions and you'd be forgiven for thinking all Palace fans are like that. But I guess that's just how some people deal with the football pain ....they need to let off steam, call for the managers head and apportion blame. Personally I just turn the TV/ radio/ computers off put the kettle on and go and do something else.

Finally a well written thread that has made me want to login and write something. It is easy to understand fans' frustrations because 2016 (in the league) has been truly horrendous. But 2016 also brought us an FA cup final and the best two minutes of my life inside a football stadium. We need to write of last season though. This is a new season, with new players and a new way of playing. Yes, we are close to the bottom, but as the OP pointed out, it is all very close at this stage of the season. We're also playing some great football at times but have been very poor defensively which Pardew must take some blame for. The most important thing is that in every game this season we have been competitive. I will start to worry when the players look like they've given up on there manager. Only if that happens, would it be time for Pardew to go.
