I just don't want to lose him to the African Cup of Nations, so a call up would of been timely.

Zaha with the most successful dribbles in the league this season, joint 6th most assists, joint 20th most tackles.

Out of form, Vardy, Drinkwater, Jagielka and squad players Rooney, Lingard, Sturridge all in the squad. No International incentive for players it seems.
When Drinkwater was playing well he couldn't get a look in.

Wilf made a brief subs appearance against Sweden when Ihbra scored that wonder overhead kick. So surely he can't play for another nation now?
No one really gives a t*ss about England anymore anyway. They have not played consistently well as a team for years. Overhyped overpaid and underperforming or perhaps they just aren't very good.

While I'm not disagreeing with the general sentiment of this thread, I'm not sure I understand why people are so keen to see him in the squad.

In my experience, getting a couple of minutes on the pitch for England has tended to send match form in the league rapidly southwards. It happened to Wilf last time he was picked, and Townsend has hardly been pulling up trees since the last international break.

For the sake of Palace, I'm quite happy that Wilf is left to focus on proving himself in the Premiership.

Because if he now chooses the Ivory Coast, we lose him in January to the AFCON tournament. He has only played in 2 friendlies for England so is still able to change countries.
That being said, if picked on form, how can he not be in it?

Quite simply, Southgate is clueless. Zaha must be scratching his head asking what more he has to do to get a call up. He now seems to be more aware of when to play the simple pass, he has adopted Bolasie's more direct running at times making great use of his speed and the only thing really missing is some finishing boots. If I was Townsend I'd feel a bit embarrassed to have been picked over Zaha. And Lingard? Jesus Christ.

Lingard over Wilf or Redmond. It's like they ain't even trying to disguise the bias anymore.
Wilf will surely choose the Ivory Coast now.

I don't think he can as he has made a professional appearance for the England team.

Also the concern that Wilf feels he needs to move to a "bigger" club to get in the England squad (which is fair as if he had moved to Spurs over the summer he would 100% be in the squad).

People have been calling for Wilf to be in the squad for a while and generally I've disagreed, last couple of seasons he hasn't been good enough. This season is a different story, we often look like a one man team and the end product is getting much, much better. Townsend over Wilf is very surprising.

He's only played in friendlies so can still switch. Once a player plays in a FIFA sanctioned match (ie qualifier/major tournament) he can't change nations.
