When i first heard about it, i thought 12 games was very harsh. Now ive seen it, it is totally deserved. Could have left the defender with a fractured skull or even worse.

As bad as Calvin Andrew's challenge was (yes it deserved a 12 game ban).... it didn't even come close to WBA's Craig Dawson's assault on Julian Speroni with his elbow at the Hawthorns a couple of season's ago. As Dawson approaches Speroni he even adjusts the height of his elbow for maximum damage. The Referee (Clattenburg who else?) did not see it or acknowledge and no retrospective action was taken by the FA. The police should have charged him with GBH in my opinion!

I think attempted murder might have stuck Hoof. That was probably the worst elbow I've seen, not to mention cowardly. Jules was a lucky boy.

Quite a few have said he took an elbow himself from Clarke before the incident, so was giving some back, and some, it would seem. That doesn't make it right, but I think 12 games is over the top. Other players have done worse and got less. Ben Thatcher for Man City stands out for me as being similar in kind (if not worse) and I think that was only 6/7 games.

Claude Davis put someone in the ICU and only got a six match ban. That said, he should really have been banned for longer.

12 games is about right for that. However it's the consistency in these things that worries me, anyone remember the awesome left hook that Paul Davis of Arsenal smashed into the jaw of Glen Cockerill, that I think shattered his jaw ? he said it was for being on the end of racist abuse but he was effectively banned for the best part of a season, and that ruined his career. Then we have Vinny jones's tackle on Gary Stevens, Fash the Bash doing a spot of re-modelling on Gary Mabutts Eye Socket, Ben Thatchers high speed WWF style fore arm smash into the face of Pedro Mendez, and who could forget the spud munching w***er Roy Keane standing over Alf-Inge Haalands writhing body shouting "have that you c***" after a career ending challenge. All of which where way worse than the elbow but if I remember rightly only Paul Davis had the book thrown at them. FA and consistency are not words you associate together. They should be but are not.
