Sometimes he used to lean to one side and keep swinging his arms about to try and put off the penalty taker. He must be in his 60s now. I was always Paul Cooper in the school play ground until palace signed John Burridge :-) it was around the time ipswich won the cup in 78. Back then keepers had to be rooted to the line before the kick was taken, they didn't get away with jumping around or moving forward like they do now, so it made the amount of pens he kept out even more amazing!!

As a poster pointed out Cooper was not particularly tall for a keeper, in fact I think he wasn't even 6ft. Mind you Shilton wasn't that tall either, nor was Peter Bonetti. On the subject of tall keepers and penalties, many on here will recall Leicester bringing on 6ft 7in Kalac in the final minute in our play-off Final game at Wembley which appeared to be heading for a penalty-shoot out by unfortunately Claridge shinned one in ! Jedi has been my favourite taker we have had. I think that Macca would be a smart choice it's about bottle at the end of the day and he has it in buckets. If not him maybe Andros.

Here's one for you all..... The penalty taker runs up to kick the ball, but, he taps it slightly to one side but in front of him, then, another player runs up & kicks the ball into the net. Whats the outcome?
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Whats the outcome? If the penalty taker moves the ball forward and his teammate who was outside the box at the time of impact rushes in and scores a goal is awarded. However if the ball is moved forward, stops and a teammate rushes in to score then a goal is not awarded as the penalty kick is effectively over when the ball stops.

Right answer for your 1st part, wrong answer for your 2nd. A direct free kick(which is what a penalty is) only becomes 'spent' when it either touches another person upon the field of play, OR, it leaves the field of play. The ball only has to move its own circumference in a forward motion for it to be come 'live'.
