Only Dann is worthy of an England call up IMO. As to why few Palace players got picked before, I think our 'then' game-play was a factor. Playing hoofball hardly lends itself to the experience required for international duty. For players other than defenders, slick passing would be a prerequisite, something especially our midfielders and wingers have not been known for, or week-2-week experienced in. Not that they were never possibly capable, they never were given a chance to improve or show their abilities in these areas. Except for our defenders and strikers, such as Sansom and Wright. Now with our new style of play - passing and creating chances etc - and let's face it - longer than just a year or two playing in the English top league - we may find more candidates in the near future. Didn't mean that defenders don't need slick passing - edit out.

Just taking who hes picked into consideration, would anyone swap Townsend or Zaha for Lingard? He has been largely anonymous for United when ive watched them and hes a winger FFS. Southgate is going to become a right fat b****** with all the FA chiefs and Top Six Managers cock fat hes going to swallow to secure the job. This is exactly why we are so bad internationally,it becomes about politics and not football, power and not form players.

It's not just us. I think someone like Deeney has every right to feel aggrieved at not being selected for England. He's holding up play really well for Watford, and putting the ball in the back of the net. If I'd written Liverpool or Tottenham instead of Watford, he'd probably be in the squad.

I don't get why so many people want our players to get England call ups?! Surely the longer they remain "our little secret" the better for us?! As soon as Dann or Townsend get an England call up they are straight away on the big sixes radar to increase their English squad quota. We simply won't be able to hold on to england 1st teamers in today's premier league.

The big clubs have extensive scouting networks and it's completely irrelevant whether the players have an England call up or not as if they are deemed good enough to play for a big club that club will come calling. You claim that "as soon as Dann or Townsend get an England call up they are straight away on the big sixes radar" Yet Townsend has played for England and it seems that the big six clubs didn't want him this summer and he ended up at lil ole Palace.

I expect Townsend to get a call up soon if he continues to play like he has been. Dann's seeming invisibility (aside from injury) is baffling - would anyone genuinely swap him for Smalling, Jagielka, or the other one (who so underwhelms me I've forgotten his name momentarily)?

We have to be realistic. The FA want the biggest brand names (Arsenal, Man United and Tottenham for example) to be represented as they sell more merchandise. It hurts me to say this, but our understanding of the modern marketing game is quite naive. Any expert who went to Selhurst Park would agree that the product positioning and brand alignment is shakey. Hold the lines, lads! We need to widen our channels to market, and tighten up the margins. I'm not even going to mention the supply chain..... Palace have never produced a Brand Beckham. Zaha is a fantastic footballing talent, who I think would come into his own on a bigger stage, but what does he know about endorsement deals? I've never once seem him tweet about any commercial product. Let's get real you guys! Sport England is about leveraging world class brand solutions. Don't think local, don't think football, think Global guys!!! Edited by OhthisbloodyPC (03 Oct 2016 8.48am)

I don't know why players have contracts then. It seems to me people on here are saying that if any of our players play well at international level they'll wake up the next morning at the Manchester City training ground. Actually, the transfer window is shut, the players have contracts and if somebody wants to buy our players they generally have to pay good money for them. Let's not just cross our fingers that we one day end up with such a crap squad that no one wants any of our personnel. Personally I'm pretty excited whenever Palace players get an international call up. Nervous about injuries, but generally excited. And to appear for England is the doozy for me because I am English and because I am utterly bored of watching dull Arsenal, United and Spurs players tapping the ball about for England.

On the plus side, we shouldn't have our better players out injured through game against Malta. We need them for the much more important fixture of West Ham.

Seriously, at the Euros Woy knew very well there were better options than Wilshire; but sport kit merchandising speaks so much louder than match fitness. The only issue I have is that France, Italy, Spain and Germany are hardly economic slouches. I am sure their FAs are equally keen to get their snouts in the trough and there are economies more suited to the sort of sleaze that infects our game. Yet those countries pick their best teams and profit accordingly. This preference for branding and getting the players out of the summer competitions at the earliest opportunity to ensure match readiness for the more lucrative Premiership appears to be a uniquely English disease?

Why on earth, would you want any of our players to be called up for England.
