I'm a massive fan of Wilf..he's probably in my top 3 favourite ever palace players..I can appreciate what he offers the team..BUT-his "thing" that he consistently offers and if you look at his contributions season after season is mainly and most simply-winning free kicks! Yes it's as a result of attacking intent and skill-thats why we love Wilf. But it seems that it is almost his goal to win a foul, not to actually beat his man and score, cross or assist! This kinda fits with his whingey personality and constant frequent consultations with officials-he seems to get a buzz out of winning these contests too! One other thing with him that's starting to frustrate me and that is linked, is this. We know on his day he can beat 2,3,4 players with ease, yet, when he's only got 1 player to beat he seems to once again, play for the foul instead of playing to score, cross or assist. Maybe he's not got that final bit of belief and confidence to produce, instead preferring to hand the fruition of his contributions to others to take responsibility? His finishing or lack of would certainly back this argument up. I may have it wrong, I may be being a tad harsh, but it's an observation that is starting to frustrate me, in part because we could getting more goals but also because with a bit of fine tuning I believe Wilf could be world class.
